Ninja Scroll Set for Special 30th Anniversary Screenings!
Join us for rare screenings of the 1990's anime classic, Ninja Scroll, from director Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

Praised for its animation and action scenes, Ninja Scroll is regarded by many as one of the most influential anime films ever made. Alongside Akira and Ghost in the Shell, it was responsible for increasing the popularity of adult-oriented anime outside of Japan.

Synopsis
Jubei, a highly skilled ninja, is coerced into slaying his own clan of warriors. After begrudgingly killing his fellow swordsmen, he becomes a roving hired assassin. During his travels, he must face off against an organization of demonic ninjas known as the Devils of Kimon, who are plotting to take power of Japan's government. The Devils will stop at nothing, and have the power to annihilate entire villages. Now, only Jubei and a sh**un spy named Dakuan can stop them.

Director Víctor Erice's Close Your Eyes (2024) premieres at the Film Center this Friday, September 13!

Synopsis
Set in contemporary Madrid, an aging filmmaker named Miguel Garay is called upon to recount his memories of working on his final and still unfinished film, “The Farewell Gaze.” During its production, the lead actor and Miguel’s close friend, Julio Arenas, disappeared without a trace, leaving in his wake a mystery that would haunt the lives of everyone associated with the film. Miguel never directed another project, instead living a quiet life as a writer by the coast. He remained reluctant to unravel the mystery surrounding Julio until approached by an investigative television program reviving the case decades later. With careful reflection, he reconnects with the film’s crew, former lovers, and Julio’s daughter, seeking closure for the disappearance and what it meant for all of their lives.

YOUNG FRENCH CINEMA 2024 ARRIVES THIS WEEK!
In partnership with UniFrance, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, Distrib Films, and the Columbus Council of World Affairs, Gateway Film Foundation is excited to present the 2024 Young French Cinema Film Festival.

This year's edition of the festival begins on Friday, September 6 and concludes on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Synopsis
