Terrific advice from the goat.
Two big take aways. Swimming improvement is not linear, and if you aren't struggling at some point during the swim season, you aren't doing enough to get better. The first is truth at all levels. The second is most applicable for 12 and overs, or post pubescent swimmers.
Olympic and NCAA legend Eddie Reese's advice for swimmers when they aren't improving:
Eddie Reese has more experience than anyone when it comes to developing elite swimmers.
Reese won an NCAA-leading 15 national titles at Texas and placed in the top three at NCAA championships an eye-watering 36 times.
He’s also had tons of success on the international stage, with his swimmers winning nearly 70 Olympics medals over the years.
And he has some excellent wisdom for those stretches during the season when things aren’t clicking or you are working your tail off, but not seeing the results you’re expecting.
Per Reese:
“If you’re not swimming bad at some time of the year, you’re not trying to get better.”
The reality is that improvement and success in the water is not linear.
Just because you work hard every day, do the right things, and mind the details means everything will go smoothly and perfectly.
There will be times where it feels strugglier than you expect.
There are going to be dips, setbacks, and plateaus through the season.
Your goal as an elite-minded swimmer is to persevere, analyze on where you can improve, and have faith in the work and the process.
CN and Powell AG2 came together today and had a great practice! As a little reward/practice finisher, they got to climb the rope and cheer each other on to reach the top.
Powell AG1 and 2 did some kicking on a stick last night. We love team work and pushing each other to get better!
CN AG2 started off their weekend with a tshirt relay last night! Putting work in while having fun!
We just learned that we will be a testing site for URIN-X ahead of trials!
We are excited to welcome URIN-X Technologies as our official pool sanitation provider at 🤝
The innovative technology identifies urine spots in pools via purple spotting and will allow scientists to clean the Trials competition pool before every heat.

Don't want to forget to mention some great moments from Thursday and Friday! Congrats to Elise for making podium in the 400 IM and 200 back. Peighton also joined Elise on the podium for the 200 back. The girls had some fun with the funny glasses, too!

We finished the season for many of our swimmers with a fun two day competition this past weekend. Our first ever spring celebration meet was a huge success with best times, big smiles, prizes and time with swim friends. Congratulations on a terrific short course season Buckeye!
Congratulations to all of our Districts Swimmers this past weekend. Fantastic efforts from all!
Strong 💪 Sunday performances were had by Buckeye Swim Team at the 2023 Long Course Junior Championships. All are sighing in relief at it finally being over tonight. Coach's scratchy voices and exhausted bodies, swimmers' sore muscles and emotional roller coaster ready to fly off rails, and supportive parents and family members ready to sit anywhere else but metal next to the screams. For the love ❤️ of swimming, we survived.
Congratulations Henry McDonald on a terrific weekend and bringing home the 10 & Under High Point for Males this season 😀 👏! Coach Laurie and all who have seen you transform into the swimmer today are very proud!

Our Program
We are primarily a competition swim program, with offerings that extend into recreational swimming. We are unique in Central Ohio in that your swimmer does not have to be the fastest or most dedicated swimmer to have access to our top coaches. We are Inclusive! While we do have ‘try-outs’ these are generally to find the right fit for our swimmers. If a swimmer can safely demonstrate competitive stroke knowledge and safety in the water, we will likely find a group that fits.
