The Factory Church, Concord, NC: Thank you Michael for reaching out to collaborate with Breast Cancer Hub (B*H) for the cause! We are grateful for the opportunity to serve The Factory Church community and filled with gratitude for the warmth and welcome received from the team when we conducted our community outreach on Early detection and prevention of Cancer on 4th August 2024 at the kick-off of the Service Week. I was so touched meeting Pastor Andy, Casey, and Michael, and thank you for your love and support to the cause of B*H.

“At the outreach, we distributed the B*H Pink bags to each family, carrying brochures with the QR codes to download the Breast Self Exam cards in 24 languages for Her and Him, Early detection cards for other prevalent cancers, created by B*H, and contact information so that any suspicious case can reach out to me later. A wristband and a keyring with combination colors of pink representing breast cancer in women, blue representing breast cancer in men, and purple inclusive of all genders and all cancers along with bookmarks symbolizing different ribbon colors as we fight against all types of Cancers, with the message of togetherness were also included in the bag. We also discussed our B*H handcrafted Patient care package, which included the post-breast cancer surgery comfort pillows with a pocket that allows using a cold or hot pack as part of the healing, chemo port seat belt pillows and chemo hats, a gesture of our love and care”.

July 2024, Waterloo/55 Banger Farm Community, Sierra Leone: The “One Community per Month Breast Cancer Screening Campaign” by Breast Cancer Hub(B*H) in partnership with The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation (TPBCF). This dream of mine could be only implemented because of the leadership of Mrs. Cremelda Parkinson Pratt and the great team of Thinking Pink. Waterloo is a city in the Western Area of Sierra Leone and the capital of the Western Area Rural District, which is one of the sixteen districts of Sierra Leone, located about twenty miles east of Freetown.

On the event day, July 3rd, we faced intermittent downpours throughout the afternoon, being the rainy season, due to which we had fewer participants, with a total of 26 who were sensitized with Breast Cancer awareness and also screened with no Abnormalities detected. We took the opportunity to introduce the research questionnaire by Breast Cancer Hub in partnership with TPBCF, the purpose of the research is to understand the base of knowledge of the community. The screening camp was executed with funds from Breast Cancer Hub.

We feel blessed to be able to serve the people of Sierra Leone.

May 2024, Macdonald Community, Sierra Leone: The “One Community per Month Breast Cancer Screening Campaign” is a popular venture and gaining a lot of momentum receiving calls from community residents from various areas to visit their community since the inception of this concept in January 2024 by Breast Cancer Hub (B*H) in partnership with The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation (TPBCF). This dream of mine could be only implemented because of the leadership of Mrs. Cremelda Parkinson Pratt and the great team of Thinking Pink. Our 5th campaign was held at the Macdonald community, executing Early detection Awareness and Screening. On the 16th May, our Nurse, a survivor and outreach officer embarked on a mobile sensitization campaign to prepare the residents for our sensitization outreach the next day at the Macdonald community situated off the peninsular a western rural community.

On 17th May, Our Nurse: Racheal Brewah held educational talks on the importance of early detection and offered demonstrations on how to conduct monthly Breast Self Exam (BSE), and together with Nurse Kadijah, they conducted Clinical Breast Exams. We took the opportunity to introduce the research questionnaire by Breast Cancer Hub in partnership with TPBCF, the purpose of the research is to understand the base of knowledge of the community. A total number of seventy-eight (78) were screened and seven (7) had some form of abnormalities.

The screening camp was executed with funds from Breast Cancer Hub and we also selected abnormal cases for their treatment with funds from B*H.

We requested two survivors and a nurse to be involved and disseminate key messages about the upcoming event including time and location. On the day of the event, the participation was very encouraging and included women/men and High School Girls. We screened the school girls first so they could leave early. 2021 onwards Breast Cancer Hub(B*H) has been serving patients in Sierra Leone, Africa in partnership with The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation, supporting them with treatment Aid for the underprivileged with detailed follow-up on the treatment and aid expenses of the patients. This year, from January 2024, in addition to patient treatment Aid, Breast Cancer Hub initiated a new program in Sierra Leone on Monthly Sensitization and Free Screening on a national level to visit schools, deprived communities, and marketplaces. This dream of mine could be only implemented because of the amazing leadership of Mrs. Cremelda Parkinson Pratt and the great team of Thinking Pink.

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th with the theme: INCLUSION Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation in partnership with Breast Cancer Hub held a sensitization campaign at Dwarzark Community Center in Sierra Leone, Africa. On March 8th at 10:00am we kicked off the registration process which was encouraging and orderly, ninety nine (99) individuals participated in the screening wherein eight (8) abnormalities were detected. These findings showcase the critical importance of regular breast screening.

The individuals with abnormalities were provided psycho-social support to ensure they understand their diagnosis, the necessary follow-up and care needed.

The event was successful as the awareness message was amplified on the importance of breast health and regular screenings. We also taught them how to conduct their monthly self-exams. The Breast Screening Campaign was not only celebrating International Women’s Day but also served as a platform to promote women’s health as we also offered Blood Pressure Check-up.

The detected cases were sent to our Doctor for further diagnosis and with the funds from Breast Cancer Hub we have identified (2) secondary / high school girls and support with treatment options.
It was an all-day Breast Screening Campaign with women /girls and men coming forward to register and get screened.

We screened a 12 years old girl whose mother came forward to inform us that her daughter has been complaining pain on her breast and upon screening we detected a lump.

With gratitude,
Dr Lopamudra Das Roy
