Today the Community Recreation Department held its annual meeting to review with core team members its new vision, mission, values and strategic plan goals and objectives, comply with accreditation requirements, review the department’s business plan and budget, provide law enforcement, safety and development training, and recognize fellow team members for their years of service. Join us and Chabad of Downtown Coral Gables at the annual Festival of Lights Chanukah Celebration this Sunday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Ponce Circle Park, 2800 Ponce de Leon Blvd. The celebration features the lighting of the menorah, a fire truck parade, a chocolate gelt drop and tasty seasonal treats.

Junior Orange Bowl recognizes the City of Coral Gables Salvadore Park Tennis Center and the William H. Kerdyk Biltmore Tennis Center for the city’s partnership and for hosting the annual International Tennis Championship.

Watch the 75th annual Miracle on the Mile Parade this Sunday, Dec. 10, 5 p.m. presented by the Junior Orange Bowl and join the fun as floats, marching bands and performers parade through Miracle Mile. The Junior Orange Bowl parade is the founding event of the Junior Orange Bowl International Youth Festival.

The parade is free to the public and spectators are welcome to watch at any point along the parade route. For more information, please email [email protected] or call 305-662-1210.

Following the Tree Lighting Spectacular, the Holiday Park playground will be open to the public seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, except for Dec. 16 and 17, when it will open at noon.

Santa will return to the Holiday Park for photo opportunities on the following days:
• Dec. 2 and 3: 3 - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 8: 4:30 - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 9: 3 - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 10: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 15: 4:30 - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 16 and 17: noon - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 21: 4:30 - 10 p.m.
• Dec. 22 and 23: noon - 10 p.m.

Photos are $10 each (cash only), full color and framed in a postcard.

Join members of the Coral Gables City Commission for the lighting of the Holiday Tree. The event grounds and park open at 5 p.m. for early Resident VIP access, and at 6 p.m. for the general public. The event includes the grand opening of Holiday Park, a three-hour show, carnival games, holiday craft and food vendors and a visit from Santa to light up the tree. Help us Keep Coral Gables Beautiful by participating in a family-friendly planting event this Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m., that focuses on providing pollinator gardens and patches throughout our city's parks and open spaces. This month's FREE planting activity will take place at the southern end of the Youth Center's parking lot where participants will have the opportunity to restore a planting bed with native and pollinator plant species.
