MULES TO THE RESCUE!

Getting goods to where they need to go. Emergency supplies like ice to someone needing to store insulin. Things we don't think about when disaster strikes. Mules can get to isolated places where helicopters can't land and vehicles can't go.

Inspiring.

It's the National Black Dog Day today.

Look at these adorable puppies who need to find a great new home! Being black isn't helping to provide them with huge appeal.

Yes, puppies are everywhere but we can tell you that they get the best of care while at Mendocino Coast Humane Society and we want to spread the word so they can find their new homes.

This group takes so many of our Covelo pups (& adults)...just about whenever they can. So these pups finding homes makes way for maybe some or our pups who so greatly benefit from being at HCHS while waiting.

BONES Pet Rescue, (Better Options for NEglected Strays), is a nonprofit organization. We are a rescue and sanctuary where the focus is elderly, disabled and hospice animals. Most have come to us from shelters where they were deemed unadoptable and would have been euthanized. We are home to all types of animals, but primarily dogs and cats. Because we are in an isolated area, with the closest other animal services being over an hour away, we are called on to rescue younger, adoptable animals as well, which we place in suitable homes.

Bones began in 1998 in Covelo, California, when a starved, emaciated young mixed breed dog showed up on the school grounds. There were no rescue options handy but someone knew that there was someone in the community who cared about animals and might be able to help. The dog was named Bones and was nursed back to good health. Bones lived a wonderful life for many years and his legacy is what is now Bones Pet Rescue, of which he was the founding member.

Since the year 2000 we have taken in some 5,000 animals. These are animals that were sick, injured, stray, orphaned and in many cases neglected, abused, abandoned. We have provided them with veterinary care, food, a comfortable place to live and, in most cases, a new home with a loving family; almost all the rest have been able to have a lifetime home in our sanctuary. These are the elderly, disabled and otherwise unadoptable animals; they are given medical care, a safe and comfortable home and lots of love.

Some of the animals that come to us need critical care and in some cases, hospice care. We do our best to make sure that they enjoy a good quality of life until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. We believe that the end stage of life is just as important as the beginning.

HOW TO DONATE: Please help us by supporting our efforts to provide for animals in need. We rely on donations to sustain our rescue. Every dollar goes to the animals. We have no paid staff; just dedicated volunteers, who we cherish. Thank you for your support. We are grateful for donations of any amount.

Donations are tax deductible. Tax ID #: 74-3055225.

Pay Pal donations can be made via email address: [email protected]
