Dr. Koga is a Neurosurgery Specialist in Covington, Louisiana and has over 15 years of experience in the medical field. He received his Master's Degree from University of Oxford in England and an MD from Tulane Medical School. He studied Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia and completed fellowships in New Zealand, Germany and Japan. He has an interest in biotechnology and runs a research and simulation lab in New Orleans.

Dr. Koga specializes in brain tumors and vascular disease of the brain, such as aneurysms and AVM. He treats all brain and spinal tumors. In addition Dr. Koga treats general neurosurgery patients with a variety of spine and brain pathology.

Dr. Koga served as a medical doctor in Mt. Everest in 2003 performing high altitude rescues near the summit. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

This event is very dear to our hearts as we are walking on behalf of our loved ones who are living with and the constant fear that their shunt could fail at any moment. As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain.

The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years. A shunt is not a cure as its consistent failures lead to multiple brain surgeries over a patient’s lifetime, in some cases 100 or more.
