April is National Child Abuse Awareness month. As we focus on the who, what, where, when, and why involved in the epidemic of Child abuse that's occurring nationwide, we shed light on the fact that this is a worldwide crisis and not just a local concern. Protecting our children's innocence must be the priority but often falls between the cracks. It is parents' responsibility to ensure their children's safety and wellbeing, that they're happy, healthy, and protected at all times. Parents' betrayal of that responsibility for any reason is absolutely unacceptable; there's no excuse to harm a child or put a child in harm's way. Our children must come first, before work, relationships, or leisure. Let's all focus on making them the priority, ensuring their protection, and bringing them into their adulthood with love to pave a way to a successful and blessed future for all.

“Spam” has increased exponentially over the years. What used to be spam emails turned in to spam phone calls and now it’s spam text messages.
Every day, tens of thousands, if not millions, of people receive spam emails/calls/texts. I’m sure by now we all have been contacted about our car warranty, but the spam doesn’t stop there. Below is a screenshot of a text message that has circulated on social media on multiple occasions.
❌NEVER CLICK ON A RANDOM LINK
❌NEVER RESPOND TO UNKNOWN TEXTS
This method as shown below is typically used by predators to strike up a conversation with their next potential victim. (More info to come on this)
EDIT: It is unconfirmed if traffickers can actually trace cellular devices when communication takes place
✨REMINDER✨
- Never respond to any unknown messages
- Block the number immediately
-Monitor your children’s phones if they have one
- Contact your cellular provider on tips to block these unwanted calls/texts
Sincerely,
The Find Our Missing Team

✨WEEKLY TIP from Find Our Missing✨
Staying safe is not about paranoia or being in a constant state of fear or worry. Taking precautions is a natural human instinct and unfortunately we live in a world where danger lurks around every corner.
As we enter the new year, we’d like to encourage everyone to:
1. Always be aware of your surroundings. Whether it’s walking through a parking lot or browsing a clothing rack, know your surroundings.
2. Share your location with someone you trust. Whether it’s a spouse, a parent, a sibling or a close friend, it is always a good idea for someone who knows you well to be knowledgeable of your whereabouts.
3. Never go on dates with a person you don’t know, alone. In today’s technological world, it’s common to meet someone on the internet and perhaps meet up outside of the chat room. This is a predator’s favorite game to play with their next victims. Don’t do it.
4. Monitor monitor monitor. If you are a parent, monitor your child’s phone usage. Who they talk to, who they hang out with, what apps they use and if they have social media, monitor their inbox. Predator’s are everywhere.
5. Trafficking is on the rise and traffickers have become clever. If you notice strange markings on your vehicle and/or your phone notifies you of a tracking device on your persons, report it to the police immediately.
Surrounding yourself with trustworthy people while remaining aware of your environment at all times will prevent you from becoming an easy target. Be watchful and lookout for one another. Let’s make this world a safer place.

✨ WEEKLY TIP by Find Our Missing ✨
BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
It takes only a second for a life to change. According to the FBI, a violent crime occurs every 24.6 seconds.
Being aware does not only make your safer, but also others around you which can serve as mighty deterrent if a predator is searching for their next victim. If a predator does not feel they can easily take advantage of a situation, they will not even try. In today’s world, we all could use the extra help on remaining safe.
A predator’s favorite target are those who are distracted, whether by talking on the phone, wearing ear phones, hands being full, etc.
Some tips:
▪️Ditch the headphones while out in public
▪️Keep your head on swivel; constantly look around the environment you’re in (parking lots, stores etc)
▪️We all carry cell phones but put it away when walking to your car
▪️Carry pepper spray and have it in hand
▪️Try to always have a partner with you, especially when taking children out in public
▪️Once in your vehicle, leave. Never sit idle in your vehicle while parked in a public parking lot, especially at night

Weekly Tip by Find Our Missing
✨Share location with someone you trust ✨
It’s takes a blink of an eye for your life to change. When you share your location with someone close to you who knows your habits and even your schedule, it can make a massive difference and potentially save your life should you find yourself in a bad situation.
Recently, Find Our Missing was contacted by a concerned young woman who reported that her boyfriend was missing. Members from the organization immediately began their search by working off of the last known locations of the missing teen’s cell phone.
The missing teen was found shortly after the search began.
Members of the Find Our Missing team shared their experience on JoCo Community Radio:
https://youtu.be/_WgzYpWVT3I
While the search did not result in the best ending, it resulted in the missing teen being found. The fact the teen shared their location with a trusted person in their life brought about closure to the case and highlights the importance of keeping loved ones informed. Sharing your location can certainly save your life in the event of an emergency.
