The shooting happened on Monday, Sept. 2, as “thousands of people were watching the parade” on a cement divider in Brooklyn, Chief of Patrol John Chell said during a press conference.

Chell believes that the shooting was an intentional act “by one person.” He added that there is no “active shooter or anything of that nature” for the community to be concerned about.

Missing 3-Month-Old Was Found Asphyxiated Inside a Bucket, Father Arrested: Police 08/31/2024

An Indiana man is facing murder, attempted murder, and battery charges after authorities allege that he left his 3-month-old son inside a bucket, causing the child to asphyxiate, while he attacked his wife.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, 28-year-old Eliasard Moneus is accused of taking his young son out of his wife's arms and then placing him in the bucket.

Back on Aug. 10, the Lafayette police department issued a Silver Alert for 3-month-old Jacob Moneus, stating that the boy had been abducted and was in "extreme danger and may require medical assistance."

Investigators allege in the affidavit that earlier that day, Jacob was sitting at home with his mother, who was watching a televised church service, when Moneus came into the apartment, took Jacob out of his wife's hands, and left.

Human remains discovered in Tennessee more than 20 years ago have been identified
By: Associated Press

Human remains discovered more than two decades ago near an interstate in Knoxville, Tennessee, have been identified, the Knox County government announced on Monday.

Genetic testing identified the person as Brian A. Sanderson. He was originally from Vermont and was 54 years old when he died, according to Chris Thomas, Knox County Regional Forensic Center administrator. Thomas did not know how long Sanderson had been in Tennessee and declined to say how he died.

Sanderson’s remains were first discovered on Nov. 30, 2003, when a passerby found them by an Interstate-275 entrance ramp, according to a Knox County social media post.

The Knoxville Police Department and an anthropology team from the University of Tennessee worked together on the original recovery and examination of the remains. As DNA testing and forensic methods improved over the years, they continued to attempt an identification. In 2008, they submitted a DNA sample to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. In 2017, the Regional Forensic Center took possession of the remains and began its own investigation, determining that they belonged to a white male who was roughly 5 feet (1.52 meters) tall and between the ages of 40 and 60.

In 2022, the county used a federal grant to hire Othram, a private company that specializes in solving cold cases through DNA analysis and genealogy. The company identified Sanderson.

“We work diligently every day to try to identify every decedent and connect them with their next of kin, regardless of how long they’ve been here,” Thomas said in the social media post. “We want the families to have closure.”

Johnny Wactor's mother speaks out after suspects charged with actor's murder 08/21/2024

Johnny Wactor's Mother speaks out after Suspects charged with Actor's murder
By: ABC7

The mother of Johnny Wactor, the "General Hospital" actor who was shot and killed during a catalytic converter theft in downtown Los Angeles, is speaking out after two of the four suspects arrested were charged with murder.

Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, both 18, were each charged Monday in L.A. County Superior Court, District Attorney George Gascón said at a news conference.

Barceleau, of Huntington Park, was charged with murder, including a special circumstance allegation of killing in the commission of a robbery, which could lead to a life-without-parole prison term. He was also charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, both with allegations he was armed with a firearm.

Estrada was also charged with murder but without the special circumstance allegation. He was also charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, both also allegedly while armed with a firearm. Estrada's charges have a maximum sentence of life in prison.

"They're breathing air that my son doesn't get to anymore," said Scarlett Wactor. "I prayed that they were not juveniles so that they could be tried as adults."

Leonel Gutierrez, 18, was charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, both with allegations he was armed. The fourth suspect in the case, Frank Olano, 22, of Inglewood, was charged with being an accessory after the fact of the killing, along with receiving stolen property and three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Wactor was shot and killed when he interrupted the thieves stealing the catalytic converter from his car on May 25. Police said the 37-year-old had left work at a downtown L.A. rooftop bar with a coworker when he saw three men who had hoisted his car. Police said one of them fired at him without provocation and killed him.

Los Angeles police say the defendants are affiliated with the gang Florencia 13 and have lengthy criminal records.

"They have tattoos on their bodies that clearly demonstrate that these are hardcore gang members," said Moses Castillo, an advocate for the family.

Friends and family of Wactor say they're pleased with the charges but disappointed no gang enhancements were filed.

"I wish and don't understand why he wouldn't do gang enhancements," said Wactor's mother. "They are all clearly gang members of the same gang that will still be asked, and I am still hoping for a lot of stackable things on top of this."

Barceleau was being held without bail, and Estrada on just over $2 million bail, according to the DA's office. The four suspects were arrested last Thursday.

Friends, family, and supporters of the 37-year-old actor gathered in downtown L.A. Monday morning, giving an emotional plea for the DA to pursue harsher penalties for the suspects.

The group "Justice for Johnny" also urged the city to take the strongest possible action against the suspects involved. Supporters called for federal charges to be filed.

Scarlett Wactor mentioned protected parking offered by her son's employer could've prevented her son's death.

"I hope that we can create change so there aren't that many more families like us," she said.

Finally, in 2003, Melissa’s remains were properly identified. But it would take another 21 years until someone was arrested in connection with her murder.

LAPD releases photos of suspects involved in fatal shooting of former ‘General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor
By: CNN

The Los Angeles Police Department on Sunday released photos of three individuals suspected of being involved in the fatal shooting of former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor in May.

The grainy photos released by LAPD on Sunday show three individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts, and police indicated the man who fired the weapon has a tattoo above his left eye and the right cheek.

The photos also show a black four-door Infiniti Q50 sedan with a tan interior. Authorities said the car was stolen.

Officials did not release any other details or updates in the case.

Wactor, 37, was shot as he left work at a downtown rooftop bar early on May 25, CNN previously reported.

His mother told CNN affiliate KABC that her son had been walking with one of his coworkers when he saw what he thought was someone working on a car.

LAPD told CNN at the time that three men were trying to steal a catalytic converter when the victim interrupted them. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the victim before the men drove off in a vehicle, according to police.

During a news conference with city leaders and Wactor’s family and friends in June, Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León urged anyone with information to come forward.

“Catalytic converter thefts are often seen as petty or victimless crime, not what happened to Johnny,” de León said. “This tragic incident underscores just how quickly such acts can escalate into deadly violence.”

Similarly, Wactor’s friend and fellow actor Micah Parker called on the LAPD to not relent until the suspects are brought to justice.

“As a matter of faith, I am called to forgive, but you cannot escape the consequences of your actions here on Earth. You do not get to terrorize our streets, stealing and killing with impunity anymore,” Parker said.

Wactor starred in “General Hospital” as Brando Corbin from 2020 to 2022, according to IMDB. Other acting credits included “Criminal Minds” and “Siberia.”

The Disappearance of Bianca Carrasco (Part I and II)
Written By: Micheal Odhiambo

PART I

It’s now been over 7 years since Bianca Carrasco went missing. The last person who saw her alive was her husband. She was leaving the Northeast part of their house after fighting with her husband. Unfortunately, she was never seen again since.

Bianca’s family and friends have vowed that they will not stop making their voices heard until they determine where their beloved daughter and friend are. The non-profit Season of Justice recently had a billboard put up to remind the community that her case still remains unresolved. Her family and friends are also constantly reminding authorities to take notice.

Bianca’s friend, Julie Stinson said, "The more the family and friends make noise, the more they feel pressure to do something about it."

Julie Stinson was not only her friend but her co-worker and classmate. She added, "It's hard that she's not here. It's still kind of unbelievable. And then they're just gone. I mean driving in yesterday and the billboard and seeing her up there, it just kind of just gave me chills."

Case Intake Manager, Lori Wittmeyer, of the Search and Support San Antonio, said, "As we stand here under the gaze of Bianca's Billboard, we were reminded of the power of community and unity during times of adversity. Presence here today not just signifies a show of support, but also a commitment to finding justice and finding answers for Bianca and her family."

Lori added, "We will not give up until we find the truth. If we work together as a community, we are able to perhaps share Bianca's story far and wide, to encourage those to come forward with information. We will not give up until we find the truth. If we work together as a community, we are able to perhaps share Bianca's story far and wide to encourage those to come forward those with information."

Julie Stinson claims that not having any answers or leads has been very frustrating and wants justice for Bianca Carrasco as well as her kids. She said, "I know that the kids have been made to understand that she just left because she doesn't want to be a mom and be their mom anymore. Bianca was not perfect, but she would have never just left, and left her kids."

Bianca’s Sister Speaks Out

Jovanna Burney, Bianca’s sister, spoke to ABC News regarding the few days before her sister vanished. She explained to the media house how she does not see how Bianca would leave her beloved kids behind.

Burney said, “She was just so funny…so loving, would do anything for anybody. Leaving everything behind…that didn’t sound like my sister.”

Jovanna claimed that she talked to Bianca several times during the few days leading to her mysterious disappearance. She said that they were talking a lot because her sister was constantly fighting with her husband. She said, “A lot of drama. I had been talking with her every day leading up to that day, trying to figure out what was going on because there was just a lot of drama between her and her husband. I just wanted to make sure they were okay.”

A day before she mysteriously went missing, Jovanna said her sister seemed quite “calm” and in fact had even made some decisions about what she was going to do with her marriage. Jovanna said, “She seemed very calm…but she described her husband’s behavior as ‘creepy’. She said she’d made a decision about seeing a divorce lawyer.”

Jovanna claimed that she had even told her sister to let her stay with her kids until everything cooled down at home, but Bianca felt that wasn’t necessary. Burney said, “So, she was just very calm and had a plan of action and that was the last time I spoke to her.”

On May 2, Jovanna claimed she tried to reach her sister but was unable to get through to her. She said, “Her phone was going straight to voicemail.”

Growing a little worried, she then decided to contact her sister’s husband, but he didn’t respond. She said, “He’d been all over the place with me and her friends (prior to May 1), so it was very strange that he wasn’t communicating as much as he was. I finally called him that afternoon because her phone still was not on. I told him I haven’t been able to get ahold of Bianca, (and asked) what’s going on. He said ‘no, she left last night’. I was puzzled. He said, ‘she walked away from the house’ and that was even more puzzling. I could have seen her maybe leaving in her car but to walk; that was very weird.”

Jovanna claims that she asked Bianca’s spouse if he’d seen her leave the home, which he did actually confirm.

Burney said, “So, then I thought ‘what about the kids’…This is getting crazy. Do I need to come get the kids so y’all can work this out? He told me, ‘She probably left with one of those guys’…he found out she was in contact with someone prior to that day, another man. She was done. Even though they lived together, he (her husband) was still commuting back and forth to Odessa for work. So, for her, she was done. And he was freaking out.”

The Rocky Relationship

Jovanna said she wondered why there was not much concern coming from her brother-in-law. She said, “I asked, ‘why aren’t you worried’…then I asked about her stuff, and he said she did not take her stuff.”

After this conversation, Jovanna said she talked to their other family members and asked them if they had heard from Bianca, but they had not. She then decided to contact Bianca’s employer to find out whether she had shown up to work but she hadn’t. She said, “They sounded concerned because of her work ethic…she didn’t call…she would not just not show up.”

Jovanna then told Bianca’s husband that she’d contact the authorities if her sister missed another workday, which she did as she vowed. She said, “There were too many red flags. Something’s wrong.”

Jovanna, who resides in Houston, Texas, contacted the San Antonio police department for assistance but the force told her to try the Houston Police. She said, “They came to the house and talked to me and then asked why her husband didn’t call (the police). I told them, ‘I have no idea’.”

Jovanna said the authorities questioned Bianca’s husband, but he never actually reported her disappearance. She said, “He was questioned…because of me (calling the police).”

Eventually, the Police Department in San Antonio did file that she was missing. The report filed claims that prior to Bianca’s mysterious disappearance, her husband had found that she might be having an affair, which, in turn, prompted him to flash all their bank accounts. He had also allegedly taken her cellphone.

Authorities also found that Bianca might’ve been hanging out with one of her male friend on May. When officers decided to visit this person’s house, they found his mother and she told them that there was a woman who was at the house that very weekend, but her husband had come for her on Sunday around 4.00 p.m., the same day Bianca allegedly walked away their family home. The male friend and person of interest wasn’t home during that time and was coaching a team away from home.

Jovanna said her brother-in-law was initially very cooperative and had even said he’d put himself through a polygraph test. “Then I learned from someone that he still had her phone when he told me he didn’t, that she had her phone with her. So, they (the police) called him and asked him to come in and at that point, he stopped cooperating and that was it,” she said.

According to Jovanna, the case hasn’t progressed much since. She said, “That’s the most frustrating thing…all this time has passed and there’s so much more that could have been done. There’s been no pressure. It’s shocking and frustrating.”

Jovanna believes that something terrible may have happened to Bianca. She said, “What he (the husband) told me was they had an altercation the night before she walked away. There was so much fighting prior to that night that things could have escalated. You hear this- something happened and there was a snap. I believe that something really bad happened to her.”

She added, “Missing persons will check her social, her driver’s license…she was a registered nurse, so they check to see if there’s been a license renewal, her credit cards…there’s been nothing. You just can’t do that (disappear without a trace). The hard part of this is that there have been a lot of tips come in over the last seven years…but I strongly believe there’s other people who know- I KNOW other people know…and you need to speak out or you’re just as bad as who did this.”

PART II

Loved and friends of Bianca Carrasco are all doing everything they can to find her over 8 years now after she went missing. The whole family has become a lot more confident than it has ever been before all thanks to the many new tools, software, and equipment they did not have access to when Bianca originally disappeared.

Bianca was only just 29 years old when anyone saw her last alive in 2016. That was May 1. On July 20th of this year, Bianca’s family and friends will be at Friesenhahn Park to celebrate her 38th birthday. During this time, they’ll also take it upon themselves to spread awareness regarding her mysterious disappearance. Jovanna Burney, her older sister, said, "She is really loved and missed. Sometimes when I speak about it out loud, it still doesn't seem real."

Bianca Carrasco, a registered nurse, was reported missing a little after the nurse didn’t report to the oncology establishment where she worked. The last time anyone spotted her alive she was at her Walnut Creek Drive home next to O’Connor Road and 1604. When she mysteriously vanished, her spouse told the authorities that they were having some marital issues during that very time.

A spokesman of the San Antonio Police said, "The fact that she would just go without anyone knowing her whereabouts is enough of an interest to us to make sure that we do our part of investigating her case.”

Authorities have constantly been saying that they haven’t ruled out any foul play in her disappearance, adding that Bianca was acting out of character being away for so long from her young children. In fact, on Mother’s Day, the youngest of her children turned 5 years old, something everyone who knows her said she’d definitely not miss.

To this day, her sister still has hope that they’re going to finally find out where she is. In fact, if anything, she is even more determined to get to the bottom of things. Her sister said, "I have got to find answers. There's been kind of a fire, an extra fire lit in me."

In late May, a huge billboard featuring her missing case went up. The billboard was put up next to Wurzbach Rd and I-10. Crime Stoppers also highlighted Bianca’s missing persons case in June, providing almost $5,000 for anybody who had some information regarding her whereabouts or any leads that might help lead to her discovery or even an arrest.

Search & Support’s Case Intake Manager, Lori Wittmeyer, said, "As we stand here under the gaze of Bianca's Billboard, we were reminded of the power of community and unity during times of adversity. Presence here today not just signifies a show of support, but also a commitment to finding justice and finding answers for Bianca and her family."

A friend and co-worker of Bianca, Julie Stinson said, "It's hard that she's not here. It's still kind of unbelievable," said Stinson. "And then they're just gone. I mean driving in yesterday and the billboard and seeing her up there, it just kind of just gave me chills." She added, "The more the family and friends make noise, the more they feel pressure to do something about it."

So many buttons, wristbands, and flyers have been available ever since she went missing. Not forgetting numerous social media pages created on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook solely dedicated to finding out where she is. Her sister Burney has even claimed she’s lost count of the number of podcasts she’s been on. She says that it’s all part of the bigger picture to help push her sister’s story out and help get it in front of as many people as possible.

Search & Support San Antonio head, Nina Brooks, has helped keep as much spotlight as possible on the Bianca story and she said, "To try out different ways to keep up Bianca's memory and get the public's attention that she's still missing.” Burney added, "All these organizations that didn't even exist at the time that she went missing exist now and they're amazing.”

In fact, most of the several platforms they are now using to try and find Bianca by spreading the word weren’t there in 2016. Brooks explained, "What changed for sure is social media." "TikTok wasn't a thing back then either,” Burney added.

The same goes for all the AI videos that Search & Support has been commissioning over the past few years, where missing people are captured giving details about their own stories. Cecilia Huerta was featured just a couple of months ago in one of the videos, almost 5 years after she had vanished.

Brooks explained, and mentioned the family of Bianca are also considering doing one of their own, "The hope is that the right pair of eyes or ears will come across it, this will get their attention, and they will reach out because they did see something, or they do know something. "Bianca, she didn't just take off. Bianca had plans, and most importantly, she really loved her children."

That’s actually Jovanna’s driving force. She said, "So that they know that their mommy did not leave them. They need to know that their mom didn't walk away."

Her Disappearance

Jovanna said, “(She said) ‘Well, if I go missing, you know what happened to me.”

Apparently, Bianca had even joked about her disappearance with her co-workers on Friday before she left work. Jovanna claimed she spoke to her on Sunday at about 2 pm or so. She’d even asked her sister whether she’d like the kids to stay with her so that she could keep them away from the fighting she was having with her husband. Burney said, “She told me no, it was okay, we’re going to get a divorce.”

Bianca at the time seemed very calm. However, the following day, Jovanna didn’t get any responses to all the messages she was sending. She said, “My phone was very quiet,” Burney said. “So, I hadn’t heard from her and I hadn’t heard from him.”

Around 4 p.m., she decided to contact Carrasco’s husband. She said, “He said, yeah we got into a big fight last night and she left.”

Her husband reportedly claimed that his wife had left their home walking and that he even passed her while she was still on foot a little while later as he went to work. He said he’d taken their youngest with him and left the other two kids at home.

Burney claimed she took his calm answer as a red flag right there and then. She said, “For weeks, he had been contacting anybody who would listen. Then all of a sudden, Monday I get a hold of him, and he’s calm and has no concern about where she’s at. That doesn’t add up to me.”

Burney went to the San Antonio Police Department and filed her sister’s missing person report. It claims that Bianca’s spouse told them she “had an affair and also gave back her wedding ring,” suggesting that is the reason she suddenly left her husband and family.

Julie Stinson said He said that Bianca took off walking down the street and that he passed her. She’s not going to just leave the kids in bed by themselves and take off walking somewhere.” Stinson then started analyzing Bianca and her spouse’s phone records since she vanished, taking note of Bianca’s last known activity, which was her arriving at her San Antonio family home at 8.08 pm.

Julie Stinson said, “She sent out a text message. Then there’s no activity on either phone until 10:22 p.m. when he makes his first phone call. Her phone is turned off at 10:22 as well. And never turned back on.”

Bianca’s friends and family hope all the renewed concentration on her missing person case will bring the much-needed answers they’ve been searching for, especially for her three young children. Burney said, “She didn’t just take off and never think about them and leave them. She didn’t. And I want them to know that more than anything.”

Stinson added, "I know that the kids have been made to understand that she just left because she doesn't want to be a mom and be their mom anymore. Bianca was not perfect, but she would have never just left, and left her kids."

Lori Wittmeyer said, "We will not give up until we find the truth. If we work together as a community, we are able to perhaps share Bianca's story far and wide, to encourage those to come forward those with information. We will not give up until we find the truth.
