Be prepared and don’t be caught out in dangerous conditions. Here’s a quick checklist to keep you and your loved ones safe.

Subscribe to local weather alerts via text.

Bring all pets inside or undercover.

Roll in your trashcans and bring in any patio cushions/light furniture/etc.

Prepare outdoor plants for cold front temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

If possible, bring vehicles into a garage or covered area.

Stay indoors.

Take pictures of any damage for insurance and warranty purposes.

If you have a backup generator, ensure it's set up correctly before a need arises.

Save the customer support phone numbers for your power company, electrician, plumber, and HVAC technicians.

NORTH TEXAS FREEZE PREPARATION LIST

-Insulate outdoor faucets and equipment and leave faucets on a slow drip
-Detach hoses and store in a shed or garage
-Make sure windows are closed and locked
-Make sure your filters are clean, and if not, replace them
-Turn all indoor faucets to a slow drip on both hot and cold-water k***s.
-Keep interior doors and cabinets open to circulate heat
-Keep thermostat above 50 degrees
-Bring plants indoors or wrap with blankets to prevent damage
-If you are going out of town for the holidays, do all of the above, and have a friend or neighbor check on your house (inside and out) a couple of times per day

Pool:
-Heat beforehand and cover the pool (if possible)
-Keep filter running/make sure it is set to freeze protect
-Make sure water is at proper level
-Set valves to “open” or “filter”
-Adjust pool jets upward
-Put heavier pool floats in water (if the water in the pool begins to freeze, the ice will push against the floats instead of the pool walls)

Auto:
-Check your vehicle’s battery life
-Check the air pressure in your tires and fill as needed
-If possible, keep vehicles not in use garaged, or start them and let them run for several minutes each day if not garaged
-Keep a flashlight and blanket/s in your vehicle

The bees at my home are wrapped up to help them through this especially cold time. Do what you can where you can.
