Just a guy who enjoys the thrill of the hunt by digging in the dirt and finding cool metal stuff. My name is Mick Burrow. There is no cost for this service.
I am a Metal Detectorist, Treasure Hunter, Historian and a Youtube creator. If you've lost an item such as a ring or necklace, or you are just curious of what treasures could be buried right under your feet, feel free to send me a message, email or give me a call. I have searched many properties throughout the Willamette Valley of Oregon and have made some amazing and astounding finds, dug up valu
At the new permission site and the Manticore uncovered it's first silver coin, a 1964 US Dime. Also hit on some deep targets that turned out to be a trash pit with intact bottles. The finds included two brown glass bottles minus the stoppers and a Fitch's bottle. You Google detectives will have to determine what a Fitch's bottle is and from what era. Metal Detector Sales thanks for the Maticore. Works great!
I found this spoon at a new metal detecting permission site yesterday. The brand of flatware is 1847 Rogers Bros. and this particular pattern had its first production in 1878. The site was either an old residence or a school house. I've gotten conflicting information but it's looking more like a residence with this find. The lot has been empty since atleast the late 1930s or early 1940s.
Metal Detecting is leveling up! Finally picked up a Minelab Manticore. In teaching photography I have always said equipment should be fresh and new, metal detecting is no different. It's Minelab's state of the art at the moment.
From last weekends search of a permission site. 1899 Indian Head Penny. Beautiful patina.
New detecting video was just published. Hope you had a great year and all the best for 2024.
Metal Detectorist Mick at the Farmer's Permission Site Episode 2 I continued to dig into the history of long ago disputed farm land near Rickreall, Oregon. In this episode the search expanded to a second site on the same ...
I secured a new detecting site after a couple months of research and finally tracking down the owner. I will be heading out tomorrow morning. The site is near Detroit Lake, Oregon and is the former site of a Civilian Conservation Corp camp from the early 1930s. There were several buildings there in two rows. Here they are on an old topographical map from 1958 versus what it is today. The structures were gone by the late 1980s and pretty sure this is virgin ground. Fortunately this is was not burned in the fires of 2020 and is outside the boundaries of the Army Corp of Engineers who govern the lake at the former town of Detroit at the bottom of the lake. The former town of Detroit under the lake is a protected archeological site. More to come.
I found this while detecting in a hazelnut orchard. It's a Massachusetts Militia button, and was only about 2" down. What its doing in Oregon is beyond me. I got some conflicting info I found and I'm having trouble pinning down the year. One said it was pre-civil war, the other was from around 1908. This land had a house on it and was gone as late as 1954. The ebay listing is just to show a similar one in like new condition. Seems to be a variation of the one I found.
Latest video at the 1939 Eola Village Migrant Labor Camp in Yamhill County, Oregon.

Here are this weekends finds. Not sure what this one thing is. It's sterling silver and looks like a handle of some kind or maybe a berette. Any ideas? All the other oddities kept popping up again. This one thing that I believe had this glass lens in the end. Looks like a valve stem cap but its not threaded.
Here are this weekends finds. I pulled this silver 1904-S Barber Dime out of the ground today. Couple of unknown date pennies, a thimble and just a collections of oddities.
Here are some great find from the past few months.
For some reason, and I don't know when, my page became invisible on FB. I had to publish the page in order to be seen. So I'm back.

Sometimes life is rolling along finding all kinds of cool treasures and then you wake the next day and life has thrown you a curve ball. I've developed some severe sciatica and will be down for a bit recovering. Now I'm on an old man cane. In the mean time I will research some new places and gain permissions. Doctors say 6 - 8 weeks but hopefully less than that. It's rainy season here too so atleast I got that occurring while I'm down.
Dig on my friends. Mick
Weather permitting I will be doing a live broadcast on TikTok on Thursday. Updates to come. Here is the link to my TikTok channel. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8cet2u6/

Great day detecting. Found a pocket watch movement and enjoyed the wonderful weather.
I FOUND MY OLDEST COIN TO DATE! 1853 US Dime! Returned to the Amos Harvey Estate after I got the new permission from the new owners. I was in the slag field and almost didn't dig it because I thought it was slag. Glad I did! 1853 Seated Liberty Dime! I was blown away. Also found a Peets Laundry Detergent token for 2 free samples, a copper #4 button, a piece of a LF&C NewYork #3, 25 lbs. scale and a porcelain coated light bulb fixture. To put it into perspective about the dime Oregon became a state in 1859.

I just secured a HUGE new metal detecting permission site. I am so stoked! The crop was just harvested so should start next week. This is the view in 2018/2021 vs. what was there in 1955. The farm was originally from 1852. The current owners acquired the land sometime in the 1960s and are only the second family to own it. I will post video and pictures of finds as I discover them.

Had a great week detecting. This week's best find was an 1893 US Barber Dime, my first Barber ever. Also found an antique lip stick case from the 1920s (I think). A Sonora Superheterodyne radio name plate from the early 1900s, a Ford Model T key, and an early Oregon National Guard pin.

Had a great couple of days detecting. Found a ring today at a permission site. I was able to reunite the ring with the land owner's son-in-law who lost the ring over a year ago. It was buried about 1.5" - 2" down. Is stainless steel and rang a solid 12 on the Nox 800. I also found an old pocket knife, a harmonica reed, 1958 Silver US Quarter, a 1901 Indian Head Penny, 1965 & 66 quarters, 1939 US Penny and a 1959 US Penny. Not all are from the same site. Videos to come.
You know what this world needs right now? More cowbell. This thing was 7" underground. Found it today at a house built in 1914.
