“It’s honestly a whole new band. I think the only thing that stayed the same about Sevit was our name and aesthetics. The sound is completely different, which some people will love and some will hate. The old lineup’s sound got compared to The Cure a lot. I love The Cure, but I wouldn’t say this lineup sounds like them. We’re more darkwave with some rock elements as well.“

I bought this book shortly after its release in 2007 on the recommendation of someone who I can’t remember. I was looking for books about the music business and this one came highly recommended. At the time, I had very little interest in working with the Industrial/Goth scene. I was taking a break from all of that and fully invested in Indie and Brit Rock bands. Therefore, I barely had any idea who any of the artists interviewed were.

Fast forward to now, 17 years later, and I often find myself going back through this book quite often and each time, I’m surprised to see faces I know, faces I have worked with and faces I will be working with like Raymond Watts (of PIG) and Curse Mackey.

If you have any interest in working in the music business, I highly recommend Tour: Smart by Martin Atkins regardless of which genre of music you’re interested in. While some parts may be outdated, the basics are still there and taught by those who have been doing this way longer than any of us. I keep this book on the desk Cameron bought me for Christmas - right next to the copy of Homer’s The Iliad I was given by the University of Dallas, a copy of Donald Passman’s All You Need to Know About the Music Business (also highly recommended) and my books from real estate class. The *special* books…
