Join The Dallas Opera as a Lightwalker!
Ever wondered how the magic of lighting comes to life on stage? Here's your chance to be a part of the process as a Lightwalker for our upcoming productions of 'La Traviata' and 'Pelleas and Melisande!'
What is a Lightwalker? A Lightwalker plays a crucial role in the lighting design process by standing in for the singers during cueing sessions. Because light interacts uniquely with a human form compared to an empty stage, your presence is essential in creating the perfect ambiance.

a minimum of 2 hours is perfect!

The Dallas Opera mourns the passing of Dorothy Krebill Karayanis, the widow of former TDO General Director, Plato Karayanis. Dorothy, an accomplished mezzo-soprano, met Plato while studying at Curtis and they married in 1956.
As a young couple, Dorothy and Plato went to Europe in 1958 and spent over seven years performing in opera houses in Germany and Switzerland. They then joined the Metropolitan Opera National Company in the summer of 1965 where Dorothy was a leading mezzo-soprano, and Plato was an assistant stage director and administrative assistant.
We remember fondly the gracious hospitality of the Karayanis’ during in their Dallas years. She often brought her home made baklava to the office, personally offering it to the staff. She and Plato endeavored to make everyone feel they were part of one big family.
Following Plato’s retirement, they moved to Santa Fe and continued their life-long involvement with opera, the arts, and the community. A memorial for both Dorothy and Plato was held this morning at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe.
The Dallas Opera offers condolences to their family and friends, many of whom still maintain robust relationships with The Dallas Opera.
