Beyond The Butchers

In honor of Women's History Month, we would like to highlight the first female test pilot, Alma Heflin.

Alma's story began as a child when she witnessed the emergency landing of a small plane in a field near her home. That experience inspired her to become a pilot, and after earning her bachelors degree in education in 1936, she qualified as a private pilot. Soon after, she purchased a new Piper and traveled to Lock haven, PA, to take delivery.

She impressed the founder William T. Piper. And as a result he offered her an apprentice mechanic position. Initially she was ground crew but eventually she moved into sales and began flying the aircraft around the country to potential buyers. She flew extensively and attended air shows and other events.

In 1940 she and Margie McQuin took Heflin's Piper J-4 across country to Alaska. It took the pair 13 days to cross the United States. On her return Heflin committed to helping the war effort by becoming the test pilot for the Piper O-59 Grasshoppers being produced in Lock Haven for the United States Army. She took her first test flight on 12 November, 1941. As a result she is believed to be the first female commercial test pilot in history.

I became a helicopter test pilot almost 50 years to the day after Alma! Thanks form paving the wave for us!!!

Hemingway Trees are back at DFM! They have tall and short fresh Christmas trees and really tall too for those DFM townhomes. Also beautiful fragrant wreaths to garnish your front door or the front grill on your car- Beautiful and hand selected!!

The team is kicking off the second annual .
Who are we raising funds for?
We are striving to send as many bags of jerky as possible to service members deployed.
We will be kicking off this challenge here in South Korea 🇰🇷 with a goal to raise a total of 1000 donated bags.
Starting Friday April 1st. We will be going live to kick off this challenge with new faces joining for each 4 hour iteration.

When the time comes, we ask for your help with engagement and spreading the goal!

Here’s what we did during Covid-19: and the Dallas Freeze:
We focused on helping our DFM neighborhood where we also work and live!
Stayed open the entire time to provide stability for our employees and meats meals and memories for our patrons.
Opened a one stop mini mart called the Corner Store for DFM community to place grocery orders and BtB owners picked up-delivered, and stocked our shelves for community
Offered Delivery
Created special comfort food meals to go- “Take and Bake”
Donated meals and meat to those in need
Continued to support or 2nd chances outreach program.

During the Freeze anytime power came on we ran down to Beyond the Butchers, started up the grill and prepared and serve meals for our neighborhood. No cash, no worries, we trust you to pay it back and forward.
