Do you know your watering days?
Water during the coolest part of the day on your trash day and again three days later if necessary; this allows the ground to absorb the water before it evaporates.
Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., more than 50% of water is lost to evaporation, wind, and runoff. If you have traditional sprinklers that throw water in the air, the water droplets that land on your grass can act as magnifiers and burn your grass.
Let's save water together, McKinney!

McKinney is known for its nature and various wildlife call the city home. From sociable squirrels to curious coyotes, we encounter animals in parks, backyards, roads, and rooftops. After all, they're Texans, too!
Egrets like to nest high in trees with overlapping limbs.
Things you can do to deter nesting:
- Remove any remaining nests from last year
- Trim your trees (only on private property) or coordinate with your HOA for landscaping services

The City of McKinney understands how frustrating and disruptive the current trash, recycling, and yard waste collection service is for our residents. Waste Connections, the city’s trash and recycling collections contractor, continues to have a shortage of qualified drivers. The level of service they are providing is not acceptable, and we apologize for this inconvenience.
The city is committed to promptly addressing this issue and is diligently working with Waste Connections to obtain compliance with their contractual obligations. In addition, we are seeking additional resources to provide reliable and consistent service for our residents.
Unfortunately, all solutions take some time to implement, and we ask for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges. All residents should leave their trash and recycling carts, and yard waste out until serviced or until 7 p.m. on Saturday. A missed service is anything not collected by 7 p.m. on Saturday. All missed routes will be picked up as part of the normal collection the following week.
During this time, we have asked HOAs to evaluate their neighborhood’s trash, recycling, and yard waste service time before issuing violations for leaving carts and yard waste out.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
