Grand Prairie ISD has several steps we must take to ensure each campus has safe water for our students before they return to school.
Some of the steps that must be taken include:

*Flushing all drinking fountain lines
*Changing filters for drinking fountains
*Flushing all hand sink lines
*Cleaning all ice machines as well as clean and flush the lines
*Changing filters for all ice machines
*Draining and flushing all water heaters

In order for our Maintenance and Operations team to perform all the necessary steps needed at our 36 campuses, we will close tomorrow, Friday, September 6, 2024. We will reopen Monday, September 9, 2024.

We apologize for the inconvenience; however, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we will take all the necessary steps to ensure we provide a safe environment at every campus and facility in GPISD.

Our Grand Prairie Head Start location is closed today until further notice from the City of Grand Prairie.

Based on current information regarding the city’s water issue, we feel it's in the best interest of our students and staff to close tomorrow, Thursday, September 5, 2024. We will continue to monitor this situation in anticipation of reopening Friday.

For students in our Early College program, we are making Dallas College aware that GPISD will not provide transportation tomorrow.

Also, we will have a grab-and-go lunch for GPISD students only (secondary students will need their ID, since elementary students do not bring their ID home, they will not need to have their ID.) tomorrow from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the following locations:

Ochoa STEM Academy at Ben Milam Elementary - 2030 Proctor Drive
Global Leadership Academy at Barbara Bush Elementary - 511 E. Springdale Lane
Florence Hill Elementary - 4213 Robinson Road

Head Start of Greater Dallas, Inc. remains steadfast in the belief that "Every Child Deserves a Head Start." This belief fuels all aspects of our work to grow access to a quality early childhood experience for a greater number of children ages zero to five.

HSGD strives to provide the most comprehensive quality programs for our students and families. The agency has made a commitment to this community for 35 years serving over 100,000 children and families.

Head Start of Greater Dallas is always in need of school supplies for our centers. This year to commemorate the agency's 35th Anniversary. We ask donors to give $35 for 35 years of service provision to children and families.

However, if you are feeling generous you can give more, as the agency supplies items such as scissors, construction paper, crayons, and other items when the children are in our care for fun and educational activities that get the children kindergarten ready! In addition, the Early Head Start program provides formula, diapers, and wipes for the littlest learners ages 0 to 3 years old.

Supporting the agency through NTX Giving Day will help HSGD provide for the educational needs of the children, and also assist HSGD to focus support on other immediate agency needs.

Literacy is Joy! 🤩📚

We were thrilled to have “Mychal the Librarian” (Mychal Threets) join us for the “Spreading the joy of libraries” panel discussion at the Office of Head Start’s Summer Professional Development meeting!

Mychal shared how engaging with local libraries can strengthen Head Start’s program community connection and create a sense of belonging for Head Start children and families.

He also emphasized that libraries are vital community hubs. They provide a space for people to gather, learn, and connect, which strengthens community ties and fosters social connection.
