Two SMU librarians are digitizing Dallas history.
Jeremy Spracklen and Scott Martin spend five days a week restoring, digitizing and cataloging film and video archives from the vault at the G. William Jones Film and Video Archive on SMU's campus.
Some notable clips they have discovered already are previously unseen footage of Martin Luther King Jr., an SMU student orientation film from the 1960s, and film of Jimi Hendrix arriving at Love Field.

We join with the Bywaters-Cochran family in mourning the loss of Jerry Bywaters Cochran and remembering her generous spirit. Her many gifts of art to the University Art Collection over the years—much of it by the hand of her father, Jerry Bywaters—comprise one of the largest donations of art presented to SMU, and a selection of these paintings were installed in the museum's first-floor galleries just a few weeks ago. https://bit.ly/3reSSnk

The City of Dallas officially proclaimed today as Octavio Medellín Day! 🎉 We are delighted to celebrate the legacy of this notable Mexican artist and sculptor who helped shape the Texas art scene.
Medellín produced powerful artworks in a wide range of disciplines that can be found across Dallas. He also influenced generations of students as an instructor at the school of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and as founder of the Creative Arts Center. The first-ever retrospective of his work opens for free at the DMA on February 6. 🎨
Pictured here are the artist’s family members, Mayor Eric Johnson, Eugene McDermott Director Dr. Agustín Arteaga, and exhibition curator Dr. Mark Castro celebrating the proclamation at City of Dallas - City Hall.
