🌲 "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" 🌲
This age-old question isn't just philosophical—it's surprisingly relevant to product development.
In our digital forests, some features are like unseen fallen trees: they're there, but if no one uses or notices them, their impact and existence are practically meaningless.
Worse, if these features are broken or are never used, they silently drain resources and cloud potential innovation paths.
What does this mean for us as product owners, managers, developers, startup founders and company leaders?
⚖️ Resource Allocation: Every hour spent maintaining an unused and broken feature is an hour not spent on innovation or enhancing valuable features users love.
🤔 User Experience: A cluttered product, burdened with unnecessary features, can confuse and frustrate users, leading to a poor overall user experience.
🧨 Innovation Stagnation: Fixating on repairing or supporting underutilized features can lead to distraction and missed opportunity for genuine innovation.
📉 Customer Retention: Broken or unused features can confuse users, that can deter users from fully engaging with the product, leading to decreased satisfaction and customer retention.
💪🏾 Action Steps:
✔️ Track minimum viable analytics (MVA)
✔️ Regularly review your feature usage metrics.
✔️ Engage with your users to understand what they truly need, value, desire or love.
✔️ Prioritize your development efforts to focus on features that enhance user satisfaction, customer delight and drive engagement.
🚀 Let's not let our products be forests where unseen trees fall.
Instead, let's cultivate landscapes where every element serves a purpose, supports our growth, and resonates with our users.
To foster innovation and provide meaningful value to users, software products should focus on features that matter and remove or improve those that don’t.
By doing so, they clear the path for new ideas and enhancements, allowing the product to grow and thrive like a well-managed forest.

🚀 3 Things I Wish Every Startup Founder to Know 🚀
I have worked and interacted with 1000s of startup founders in over 24 years in business. From tech founder’s successes and failures, I've learned a lot about what it really takes to find that elusive digital product that users love.
Here are three lessons I wish every founder to know before starting their startup journey:
🔄 It’s an Iterative Journey, Not a One-Time Event
Everyone thinks Product-Market Fit (PMF) is something one "achieves" once and move on from. In reality, it’s a continuous process of iterating, learning, and adapting to evolving needs of your users. As market and customers evolve, and so must your digital product.
🌟 Customer Pain Points Are the True North
Focusing on customer problems should be your guiding star. It's easy to get excited about cool features or technology, but understanding, validating and solving real customer pain points is what drives sustainable growth.
🎯 Listen to Data, but Don't Ignore Your Gut
Data is crucial, but intuition plays a big role too. I learned the hard way that sometimes, the numbers don't tell the whole story. Balancing data-driven decisions and customer insights with gut instinct can lead to breakthrough insights.
Finding PMF is challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding when you get it right. But revisiting your PMF every so often is a must do exercise that shouldn’t be ignored.
These lessons have made all the difference in my journey to support founders in realizing their dream, and I hope this helps other founders reading this post too!

🚀 Is Good the Enemy of Great in Innovation and Software Development? 🌟
Settling for "good enough" often hampers true innovation.
“Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great” - John D. Rockefeller
Many teams fall into the complacency trap, iterating on the safe and familiar. Leading to a dangerous mindset among teams and leaders: “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” (refer to my previous LinkedIn post - “Stop the Innovation Killer in Its Tracks!”)
This too happens when we are constantly patching up old issues, it can prevent a product team from in thinking innovatively. It is hard for them to achieve innovative breakthroughs and thus leads to innovation stagnation. (refer to my previous LinkedIn post - “When to Stop Putting Lipstick on a Pig”)
Yet, history shows us that breakthroughs occur when we push beyond the comfortable, challenge the status quo, and pursue the great over the merely good.
When we settle for 'good or very good' as our highest effort, then good becomes the enemy of great. - Jim Collins
Why strive for mere competency when greatness is within reach?
🔍 Chasing Excellence
Pursuing greatness means embracing risk and failure as integral to the product development process.
🛠 Innovative Mindset
Cultivating environments where bold ideas thrive, and failure is seen as a stepping stone, not a setback.
🧨 Problem-led Solutions
Seeing problems as opportunities to excel and innovate.
🌟 Think Bigger, Bolder
Challenge ourselves to think bigger and push the boundaries of what we believe is possible.

🚀 May the Force be with you in your digital product development journey! 🚀
So what are the Digital Product Development Lessons from a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Star Wars is a beloved sci-fi saga, but beyond the lightsabers and droids, it offers valuable lessons for digital product development.
Here’s what we can learn:
- embrace innovation; push boundaries of what is possible
- understand the needs of the citizens of the galaxy
- learn from rebel’s setbacks (failures, iterate quickly, and keep moving forward)
- Star Wars heroes succeeded because of their diverse team
- the Jedi always had a long-term vision, while the Sith focus on immediate power
- heroes were adaptable and agile to changing circumstances
May the Force be with you on your digital journey! 🚀
💡You can either Innovate or Disrupt, so stop asking your teams to do both! 🧨
They may be two sides of the progress coin, but expecting our teams to chase both is like pushing them into an identity crisis.
💡Innovation is the engine that keeps your current model humming, sharpening what exists for efficiency.
🧨 But disruption? It's the art of rendering what you know obsolete, daring to dream up an entirely new model.
💡Innovators: refine, enhance, and optimise our present.
🧨 Disruptors: envision, experiment, and craft our tomorrow.
⚖️ We may need the balance of both to move forward.
As leaders, we must be clear about our goals. Asking our teams to innovate and disrupt simultaneously can lead to confusion and diluted efforts.
Instead, let’s set clear, distinct objectives:
💡 Focus on innovation to elevate our current offerings.
🧨 Embrace disruption to redefine the playing field.
👉🏼 By aligning our teams with specific, achievable goals, we can drive more focused and effective outcomes.
Let’s empower our teams to excel in one path at a time for maximum impact!
🏎️ Like building Mercedes EV beside a steady Mercedes gas car lineup, we need to be creating 'tomorrow teams', free to explore uncharted territories and devise solutions for problems that have yet to appear

🚀 Embracing the MLP Approach: Key to Startup Success! 🚀
🔍 What is a Minimum Lovable Product (MLP)?
In the startup world, resources are precious and time is of the essence, the goal often is to build a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with minimum features needed to satisfy early adopters and test product hypotheses. Instead we believe, startups should focus on the benefits of creating a Minimum Lovable Product (MLP) that not only meets the minimum criteria for functionality but also generates desirability and user delight right from the start.
At ISHIR, our strategy is to continue to make a significant impact during our unique Innovation Acceleration process by aiming higher with Minimum Lovable Product (MLP).
Why is a Minimum Lovable Product (MLP) crucial?
It's simple: Build a product that is lovable and viral-able, not just merely variable.
🛠️ Benefits of an MLP:
Focus on Core Features: Concentrate your efforts on features that are critical for solving the central problem for your users, test our understanding and refine the product features to become desirable.
Rapid Feedback Loop: Early and direct feedback from your first users is invaluable. It allows you to make adjustments before extensive resources are committed to building the full-scale product.
Cost Efficiency: Minimize development costs by focusing on features that users will love and making the MLP a cost-effective strategy for testing product-market fit (PMF).
User Delight: Get MLP in the hands of the user and hearts of what users need. Not merely tick off functional requirements but solve their problems and enchant them.
Experimentation: Test assumptions and refine the product using series of experiments during the development process. Continuously evolving product based on user feedback and needs.
Market Validation: An MLP helps you verify if there's a genuine demand for your product, and the users are willing to pay for it. Significantly reducing the risk of startup failure.
Attract Early Adopters: Early adopters not only validate your product idea but also become raving fans.
Investors: An MLP can be a great tool to attract potential investors by demonstrating potential and user traction.
🌟 For startups, an MLP is not just about building a viable product; it's about fostering a culture of innovation, experimentation, adaptation, and smart scaling.
ISHIR’s Innovation Acceleration is a powerful approach to uncover customer pain, learn what users love, delight them and make them raving fans of your startup. We do this while we build a digital product that creates a buzz.
❓ Let’s discuss more about MLP.
- What has been your experience with building products that go beyond basic functionality to WOW your users?
- What have you done to change the trajectory of your business early with your startup?

🚫Stop the Innovation Killer in Its Tracks! 🚫
Are you aware of the silent monster lurking within your organization?
It’s the all-too-common mindset:
🧨If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. 🧨
This approach is not just passive; it’s actively dangerous, quietly eating away at our potential for groundbreaking innovation.
This mentality can cause your organization to miss out on opportunities for improvement and growth, making you vulnerable to more agile competitors.
We must challenge this complacency and push the boundaries of what's possible!
✨ Here’s how we can fight back:
1️⃣ Cultivate Curiosity: Encourage a culture where asking 'why' and 'what if' is the norm.
2️⃣ Embrace Failure: See every setback as a setup for a comeback with valuable lessons.
3️⃣ Reward Creativity: Incentivize innovative ideas and solutions, no matter how small.
🔥 It’s time to slay this innovation-stifling monster and foster a vibrant culture of continuous improvement.
🤔 I’d love to hear from you:
- Have you faced this 'monster' in your organization?
- What strategies have you employed to encourage innovation?
Let's share insights and strengthen our approaches together!
🧞♂️Innovation Myth: It is about building new digital products + technology🧞♂️
💡 Innovation is really about:
1️⃣ - Customer insights
↳ Identifying their jobs, pains & gains
↳ Understanding the context
↳ What's getting in the way
2️⃣ - Experimentation
↳ Reducing risk & uncertainty
↳ Evidence based action
↳ Finding leverage
3️⃣ - Killing ideas at an early stage
↳ Not holding on tightly to ideas
↳ Making clear choices
↳ Staying curious
Here is what you need to know:
🤔 People don't care about your digital product.
↳ They care about their pain.
↳ They care about making progress towards solving that pain.
But first, instead of building a product what you think people want, only invest more time and money when you already know that:
✅ Customers have the problem
✅ They have money to spend on it
✅ You can build a business model for it
And ultimately, once you've got something people want and are willing to pay for.
💡 It's the implementation + ex*****on that matters.
❓What's your view on innovation?
🚀 When to Stop Putting Lipstick on a Pig 🐷 in Software Development
In software product development, we often fall into the trap of making quick superficial fixes to a product that is fundamentally flawed — it may be the right time to stop "applying lipstick" and instead addressing the underlying issue with your digital product.
But when do we decide that enough is enough and it is time to address the core issues?
🔍 Here is when you know you are “applying lipstick” and your digital product is still a pig 🐷
📉 Diminishing Returns: When feature improvements are not solving the core customer problems, translating into real user satisfaction or ROI, it's time to rethink our product approach.
⚔️ Market Competition: If competitors are solving problems that we're just masking, we need to pivot towards more substantial overhaul or may be a rebuild.
💸 Technological Debt: Piling up quick fixes can lead to a tangled codebase and increase in complexity; it is becoming to harder to maintain and evolve the product.
🗣️ User Feedback: When users consistently highlight deep issues, superficial changes won't keep them satisfied for long. You may be experiencing user churn.
♟️Innovation Stagnation: Constantly patching up old issues can prevent a product team from in thinking innovatively. It is hard for them to achieve innovative breakthroughs.
When updates are always about fixing what's broken rather than thinking about what could be revolutionary.
💡 It's time to pause and rethink the innovation strategy.
👷Sometimes, rebuilding from the ground up may be the only way forward.
👉🏼 Addressing the fundamental flaws in a product not only enhances its value but also boosts team morale and aligns with strategic business goals.
❓Have you faced a similar decision in your product? How did you decide it was time to go beyond the surface?
Let’s discuss below!
ISHIR BorderlessMind
🚀 Do you really think you can truly “Start Ugly” to fight innovation
😱"Starting ugly" in the context of launching a digital product generally means releasing a basic, often minimally viable product (MVP), to the market early, even if it's not fully baked idea or polished digital product.
👉🏼 When executed thoughtfully and in the right context, starting ugly can be a powerful way to launch a startup idea. However, it requires careful consideration of the risks and a clear plan for responding to user feedback.
Like anything thing else “Starting Ugly” approach also has its pros and cons.
Here is a fun fact:
💡Do you know that 98% of the users who download your mobile app never ever use that app after 10 mins of downloading it.

🚀 Rethinking Software Development: A Continuous Journey, Not a Destination
I am often asked by the first-time tech founders (who usually come from traditional backgrounds mostly non-tech but are new to developing any sort of software) to review their software B2B or B2C SaaS idea and suggest a budget to build the software idea.
Here is what I share with them.
📱 **Software Project vs. Product**
In the fast-paced world of technology, it's crucial to understand that software isn't just a project most of the time but could be a product — it's a journey. Gone are the days when software could be delivered as a static, one-time install or single feature that solved a particular problem. Today's digital landscape demands that we think of software as an evolving entity, shaped continuously by user feedback and changing needs, incorporating insights in future releases. Therefore software maintenance is no longer software support but software evolution over time. It is no longer just about software uptime but software adoption and continuous value generation.
🔍 **Why Continuous Feedback is Key**
The essence of successful software products lies in its ability to adapt. By integrating customer insights into the software product development process, we ensure that our digital products are not only responsive but also anticipatory of end-user needs. This approach doesn't just fix problems; it enhances user satisfaction, adaption, retention but also drives continuous innovation and continuous value creation.
🔄 **The Journey Never Ends**
Embracing this philosophy means committing to ongoing software improvement. Every piece of feedback is a stepping stone to a better product. Our goal is to create software product that grows and evolves, offering solutions that are as dynamic as the market they serve.
👂Let's start a conversation about how we can all benefit from viewing software product not as a fixed point in time but as a continuous journey.
❓How has ongoing customer engagement shaped your product development lifecycle?
⁉️So which one are you building: software product or software project?
👉🏼 I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
