I thought I would forward a couple of links, as many of you out there are clearly unaware of the background doings of insurance companies, especially UnitedHealthcare. At the end of February, hackers from Russia called Blackcat managed to hack into one of United healthcare’s subsidiaries, Change Healthcare. United Healthcare decided to pay the hackers $22 MILLION for ransom to these hackers. Legally, United Healthcare has 60 days to inform those insured with them about the breach, which did not take place. Unitedhealth Group CEO Andrew Witty sat on Capital Hill, Wednesday May 1st and told lawmakers that the investigation into the breach is still ongoing, so the exact number of people affected remains unknown. The one-third figure is a rough estimate. The company confirmed that files containing protected health information and personally identifiable information were compromised in the breach. While he had apologized for the breach, no more than credit monitoring and updating their cybersecurity was discussed, which is unacceptable.

United Health Group has two major business units: Optum and UnitedHealthcare. Optum offers a range of pharmacy services and consulting services and provides medical care for around 103 million consumers, while UnitedHealthcare provides insurance coverage and benefit services to more than 55 million people globally.

Change Healthcare is a subsidiary of United Healthcare that was purchased back in 2022. It is not a household name for most Americans and even many health-care workers. Much of the company's technology helps facilitate billing, payments, benefits evaluations and information exchanges behind the scenes.

When people ask why doctors like myself are choosing to not take insurance, this is one of many reasons why. I also provided a link showing how the breach has financially impacted doctors’ offices.

Pretty Profound Statement but so true! Take a look further at data that shows how disease can cost 💲and more.

According to WebMD, the top 11 medical expenses are:
* Heart conditions: $555 billion
* Traffic injuries: $99 billion
* Cancer: $225.8 billion
* Mental disorders: $89 billion
* COPD and asthma: Between $100–290 billion
* Joint disorders: $80.8 billion
* Diabetes: $245 billion
* High blood pressure: $46 billion

Heart disease and stroke are the most expensive to treat and are responsible for six of the most expensive medical procedures.
To break it down even more, data from the Centers for Disease Control revealed that chronic diseases account for nearly 75 percent of aggregate healthcare spending in the U.S., or an estimated $5300 per person annually.

Just think about that🤔😳 when you think about what screening exams cost to keep you healthy and the costs of how sickness costs even more. Just remember-you have control over much of your health and how you can make decisions about how you spend your money. Sickness is so much more damaging on multiple levels including financially. Make the financial investment to maintain your health!

As some of my patient who are trying to lose weight have heard me say before, NOT ALL CARBS are BAD!

Fruit is good way get those healthy carbs in which help with weight loss. Fruit is sweet and contains naturally occurring sugar, which causes many people to assume that it’s associated with weight gain. However, research consistently shows that eating fruit supports healthy weight management and, that, eating whole fruit reduces the likelihood of long-term weight gain in adults by curbing total calorie intakes.

There is also protective effects to certain illnesses. Researchers believe the protective effects of fruit may be partly due to anti-inflammatory antioxidants and nutrients, how fruit intake alters the gut microbiome, and fruit’s ability to boost satiety. Whole fruits require chewing and provide fiber and water, they empty out of the stomach slower, which increases fullness and delays the return of hunger.

Certain nutrients in fruit, including Vitamins A, E, and C are associated with reduced fat gain and less abdominal fat. Antioxidants in fruit called polyphenols are also linked to reduced fat gain. The fiber and antioxidants in fruit have been shown to shift the makeup of microbes in the gut in ways that may protect against obesity.

Eat an apple or almonds verses corn chips for a snack. Get some exercise. Some exercise is better than none! The American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week. So, try to do a little bit of exercise each day when starting out, even if it is walking 10,000 steps daily. Give yourself a day off every second or third day. Alternate between endurance exercises and strength training to burn more calories and increase your energy. If you are looking to lose weight or just need to see where you can make improvements in your health, let us help you. Appointments are available.

Erectile Dysfunction aka ED can be a marker for cardiovascular disease, with 50% of our 50-year-old patients having ED.

For the p***s to work, a man’s brain has to be relaxed, along with pelvic floor muscles. This allows smooth muscle of the p***s to be relaxed so it can fill with blood, increase in girth and size, and hold that er****on in place. If a man’s brain is under stress, there is a lot of adrenaline around that can tighten those smooth muscles and cause a man to lose an er****on.
So, what are these treatments? Start with lifestyle. A healthy heart means a healthy p***s. All of the things already recommended for lifestyle changes can really help with ED. Sleep is important. Does that man with ED have sleep apnea? Are they exercising? Recent data shows that exercise may be just as effective, if not more effective, than using Vi**ra or Cialis. How is the diet of a man with ED? The Mediterranean diet seems to be the most helpful. Patients need to make dietary, exercise, sleep, and other lifestyle changes if they want to improve erectile function.

What about s*x education? Most patients have had inadequate s*x education. Men need to know what is normal. Having good mental health is to have a great s*x life. Everyone would benefit from s*x therapy and becoming better at s*x.

Don’t Drink & Drive This Holiday Season

Every holiday season, there is a dangerous uptick in impaired driving, specifically drunk and drugged driving.

Drunk driving accounts for nearly one-third of vehicle-related fatalities in the United States — and December is one of the most prevalent months for driving under the influence with Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve among the most dangerous holidays. While drunk driving deaths typically represent around a third of all traffic fatalities, in 2018 that increased to nearly 50 percent on December 24 and December 31

A study by Drinkinganddriving.org found 90 percent of all drunk driving occurs after drinking with family, friends and coworkers. It is important to remember that a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.08 percent is considered legally impaired. Still, alcohol can start to affect the senses after only one drink.

If you drink any amount of alcohol this holiday season, never get behind the wheel. Instead, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service or taxi, stay put, call a friend or family member, or use public transportation to ensure you get home safely. If you see that someone at a holiday gathering has been drinking, encourage them to find a sober ride or to stay put until they are sober. We all play a part in helping keep our roads safe.

Feeling down during the holidays is not uncommon. Many variables can cause one to feel down, including being away from family and friends, change in job, income issues, etc., even changing in sunlight with it lacking during the winter months can cause Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Below are several ways to identify potential sources of holiday depression that can help individuals cope with the seasonal sadness:
* Keep expectations for the holiday season manageable by not trying to make the holiday “the best ever.” Try to set realistic goals for yourself. Pace yourself. Organize your time. Be realistic about what you can and cannot do.
* Remember that the holiday season does not automatically banish reasons for feeling sad or lonely; there is room for these feelings to be present, even if the person chooses not to express them.
* Don't be disappointed if your holidays are not like they used to be. Life brings changes. Each holiday season is different and can be enjoyed in its own way.
* Do something for someone else. Try volunteering some time to help others.
* Enjoy holiday activities that are free such as driving around to look at Christmas decorations. Go window shopping without buying anything.
* Don't drink too much. Excessive drinking will only make you more depressed.
* Spend time with people who are supportive and care about you. Make new friends if you are alone during special times.
* Find time for yourself! Don't spend all your time providing activities for your family and friends.
