Bayside Cross Country had a great start to the season at the Admiral's Twilight Invite last night. The girls team finished 2nd and the boys team finished 3rd.
In our final competition of the season at the AHSAA 3A State meet on April 30-May 1 in Cullman, Alabama, our young men finished State Runner-Up and our women finished 3rd, just 2.5 points shy of being Runner-Up. Our young men scored 110 points and our young women scored 62 points.
Altogether, our men and women won seven individual events and three relays, with a total of eleven individual medalists and four relay medalists. We also had twenty-five All-State honors and sixteen new individual personal best marks with all four relays running their fastest times of the season. We accomplished six new top 3 school records. Another outstanding achievement that only one athlete in all of the AHSAA for any classification at their respective State Meet was accomplished by Patrick Daves. He was the only individual to win four individual events and score 40 points at any State Meet this year.

The Bayside Academy Outdoor Track and Field team recently held a canned food drive for the Prodisee Pantry in memory of Michael Floyd with help from the Key Club. Coach Floyd was the head coach at Montgomery Academy and passed away in January during the Indoor Track Season. Coach Swagart and the team wanted to honor the legacy of Coach Floyd and serve the needs of our local community. On April 15, the 700 cans donated during the drive were delivered to Prodisee Pantry. A portion of those cans are pictured.
The Mobile Optimist Club in Mobile recognized outstanding track and field athletes for their performance. They recognized Patrick Daves ‘22 as 1A-5A Athlete of the Week for his performance at Gulf Shores Invite, which was competed on Saturday, March 13. In that competition, Patrick Daves recorded personal best in the 110 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, and high jump. What stands out with Patrick's performances outside of his speed and technical ability is the overall times. Patrick's time of 13.89 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles has him ranked 4th nationally according to Mile Split. Patricks time of 38.17 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles ranks him 13th.
This Saturday, April 3, Patrick Daves will have an opportunity to compete against high level competition at the Challenge of Champions at St. Paul's, hoping to improve upon these times. Congrats Patrick! Go Admirals!
