- Able to administer daily head scratches and chin rubs (on demand).⁠

- Willingness to share your bed, couch, and basically all surfaces in your home.⁠
- Skilled in understanding and responding to various meows and gurgles, from "I'm hungry" to "I’m just being dramatic."⁠

Pet owners experiencing food insecurity are often faced with the heartbreaking choice to feed themselves or their pets.⁠

The Foodbank and Gem City Vet are both running low on pet food to share with pet owners experiencing food insecurity. Please donate dog or cat food during our drive to help us resupply our pet food pantries and help pets and owners in need!⁠

Woof, this is a post I have not wanted to write. But I feel like it is better to write it than to not write it. We don't want to be a business who closes and has people say "wow, we wish we would have known they were struggling so we could have helped!"

So, I'm writing this post to say we are struggling, bad, and we need help.

This summer has not been the summer we have needed to go into another tough fall and winter. But we want to still be here! We have so many amazing employees and regulars and a *community* as a whole--so we are asking that community to help us.

Out on 5th helps us on the weekends, but what we really need is people dining Wednesday and Thursday. If you're able to come in those days, that's a HUGE help! The weekends do matter too! Any time you can come in, it means everything to us!

If you're not able to dine out, taking time to leave a kind review would mean a WHOLE lot! It helps spread the word about who we are at our core when people who *get us* share that info with the world!

We'd also very much love if people can leave a comment about a good time they had with us at Lily's! We know there are so many of you! That helps us not only remember why we struggle and work hard, but also reach others as we say that we need a hand.

So please, below, let us know something you've enjoyed or would hate to miss out on. Because we deeply want to continue to be the quirky, welcoming space that we are. But we're very nervous and we need you ❤

Temporary placement needed for these guys. We're working with several fosters who have stray kittens trying to get indoors. They need temporary housing for them until we can get them started with our intake process. They have not been vetted yet, so they are not neutered and not tested for FIV/FeLV. For this reason, we recommend an easy to clean space, like a bathroom, which can be fully separate from other cats. If you have space, please reach out to us by email at [email protected] and we can put you in touch with the folks who currently have them.

For future reference, if you have someone who needs to rehome a cat, they can visit our surrender page to learn more and fill out the application on the Gem City Kitties website.

If you have adult, outdoor cats who are doing okay as community cats, we recommend TNR.

Coming this Tuesday: Simba Cafe! Join us for an evening with just one cat in the lounge, Simba! Simba loves people and making new friends, but he's a bit of a bully to the other cats when they're around. We want to give him some time to socialize and hopefully meet an adopter. ⁠

Next in the lineup of Tuxedo Cats is Mars! This one year old is such a sweet little guy! He can be shy at first, but with some gentle words and a kind hand, he would love to be your best friend! He loved to snuggle with his foster mom and didn't seem to mind the other kitties in the home as long as he has a warm lap to lay on. ⁠

Our first showcase of the tuxedo cat crew is Sofi! Sofi is a little over 9 years old and a big sweetheart. From the moment she walked through our door, she's been giving us tons of purr and love. You may not see her in the lounge yet as she currently prefers to stay downstairs. She's happy to greet us and solicit some pets from us, so we hope she will make her way upstairs soon to meet you all! She came from a home with other kitty siblings but doesn't always love being surrounded by 18! We think with slow and proper introductions, Sofi will make herself at home as if she has always been there 💚⁠

Tangelo and Kristina were found near us on 4th Street. They are not suited to live as outdoor cats, as Kristina is blind and potentially deaf, and Tangelo is fighting a severe infection that requires dental surgery to resolve. Local residents have helped fundraise so far to cover their costs of care, but we need more help! We will also be looking for homes for them once they have recovered from surgery, so we would like to talk with folks as early as possible since they will require specialized care. David Meowie is an exceptional starry-eyed boy! He's 50% personality and 50% snuggles. Playtime and food time are his favorite times of the day. He wants to be near you while you work and will most certainly remind you to take breaks to give him attention. 👋⁠

David can be a little frightened in new spaces but usually quickly blossoms into a loving companion who will greet you when you come home. He loves when you talk to him and could listen to adoring words all day! 🥰⁠

David does like to scratch and will need plenty of vertical scratchers to keep him busy. 🐾 He would also do best as the only cat in the home and would likely get along best with older children.⁠ He is a very tidy boy and always keeps his kennel space clean and pristine. ⁠

First up is Kitty Brew Cafe located in Mason, Ohio. ☕️ Kitty Brew Cafe opened in 2017 and is the Greater Cincinnati area's first Cat Cafe! You can follow along with them at . ⁠Kitty Brew has an entirely separate coffee shop side, so patrons can enjoy drinks and snacks in either the cafe space or take them into the cat lounge! They have adopted over 4,000 cats since opening!⁠

Next is Kitty Bubble Cafe! 🫧 They are located in Columbus and have been open since 2022. Since their opening date, they have adopted over 372 cats! Give them a visit and follow along at .⁠🧋 ⁠

⁠In the northern area of Ohio, we have AffoGato!
