Attended North Charleston Arts Fest’s opening celebration this evening at North Charleston Coliseum. I’m excited to have a couple glass art pieces on display in the 2024 SC Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Exhibition.
Congrats to North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department for putting together this fabulous show and opening reception.

My simple design for an oversized, all white “woven” glass bowl hit a few roadblocks along the way. The “detour” from white bowl to an organic-shaped tray meant this piece succumbed to at least five kiln firings while I added blue, green and sparkly (dichro) accent pieces. I like how its whimsical shape gives off a unicorn-esque vibe. What do you think?

“Blue Skies With A Chance Of Meatballs”
10.5” x 5” yummies®️ glass bowl (kiln formed)
I played with texture and got a tad more than I wished. Two errant mustard yellow “meatballs” refused to line up like soldiers - even after I tackled fused them twice after coaxing them back into place with a little glasstac. Maybe they add a little whimsy to the design?
These are a few of my favorite yummies®️. Enjoy!
“Cranberry Dreamer” began life destined to be a dessert plate. I layered swirls of mostly transparent frit (crushed fusible glass) on a clear base. And then I tack fused her “hem” with cranberry dots to give her more definition and purpose.
But I realized the subtleties of frit were lost on a mostly flat dish. So she languished in my “projects not completed” drawer for a couple of months. She stayed tucked away until I figured out she needed light to shine through and showcase her cool colors.
So I draped her over a makeshift mold. And now here she sits nostalgically dreaming about when she took that fork in the road. It’s like Cranberry Dreamer’s inner beauty shines through even on cloudy days.
Kind of dramatic, I know, but it’s fun when an “oops” turns out to be an “oh my!” Who else likes to take a chance on a path without “clear signage”?
Cool new work by Hornbeam Studio! Check it out!
It’s Bluesy OG! Who doesn’t love a bowl of yummies®️? More is better. Am I right?
Thinking of naming this Powder Puff. Doesn’t that sound a tad kinder than Spider Web which is the other name I considered?

While an apple a day keeps the doctor away, two in a glass bowl must be good for the soul. 🍏 🍏

Join me next weekend at Hotel Emeline for a Pop-Up! I’ve been busy making fused glass bowls, dishes, votive holders, soap dishes and more that will be available for sale. You’ll find Hotel Emeline to be a fabulous, pet-friendly hotel.
Oh, I do love a sunrise in Bermuda! I woke up, snapped the pic and then went back to sleep…
Whimsical and Sculptural. Look for this glass art piece and more from the Yummies®️collection at a Pop Up in October. Deets coming soon….
My heart goes out to Mike Hiester’s family, Gibbes Museum, Charleston’s art community, and beyond.
Mike touched so many lives. He introduced me to fused glass, and my life is forever changed because of his tutelage, warmth and ability to fix all my crazy glass mistakes, which he called “happy accidents.” As Mike would say, glass happens.” And I’m forever grateful to Mike for making kiln-formed glass happen for me in such a profound and wonderful way. 💔

Hey artists, Do you have any of your art on display in your home?

Guess I’m getting back to my Yummies®️roots! Thanks to ceramic artist Laura Scariano for placing a custom pendant order and for feeding my ceramic bowl obsession at Piccolo Spoleto Craft Show.
Of course I’m making a dozen “Tapas” Yummies®️ even though the order was for one. I forgot how much fun these are to make! The pendants pictured with silver are part of my (large) personal collection.
I’ve done a deep dive into a sea of blues.
Which is your favorite style? Swirls of Blue? Powder Blue Web? Or Painterly (with yellow dots)?
Meet Kernal Mustard! 👋
The Kernel has been kiln-fired twice*. The first firing fused the two layers of hand-cut glass pieces I assembled to create this unique design. The second overnight stay with JoJo (my kiln) “slumped” the newly fused flat round glass into its current shape.

The Kernal weighs (almost) 1 lb.
DM me if interested.
*Each finished functional glass art piece I make requires at least two kiln firings.
I’m working on a prototype dish in blue and yellow for a set of custom plates. Hope the colors look as striking after they’re fused. 🤞 Stay tuned….
Who doesn’t love a pink and green moment?
Took a class yesterday taught by talented artist Robin Howard.
It was a two-hour class on assemblage art. This is my FINAL piece (I think?) after I made more than a dozen variations of this yesterday afternoon and all day today. This is rather addictive art.
The watercolor dog painting is by my talented daugter, Cason. My father, Fred Izenson, gets credit for the drawing of the crazy chess figure and painting the little pink dog (who is part of nesting springer spaniels.) Sadly my Yummies®️didn’t make the Final Cut, but I might sneak one in.
I’ve been busy making delicious bowls with fun yummies®️… while craving jellybeans. Must be the season?
What 3 to 5 color combos, do you want to see next?
These dishes are cobalt, pink, spring green, canary yellow, turquoise, peacock blue & hints if orange. The top bowl is primarily cobalt blue and the bottom canary yellow.
