We were heartbroken to learn our beloved Miss Eunice, who retired in February after 34 dedicated years as Independent's graphic artist, recently passed away. Her artistic talent and endlessly kind, generous spirit touched so many lives in her time with us; as much as she will be missed, we know her steadfast faith has been rewarded.

We love you, Miss E. Thank you for your years of friendship and dedication. 🕊💐

Everything from brochures to books, we're so happy to work with your Canva files! It just takes a couple of extra steps to get us the printable file we need – PNGs (the default suggestion) are great for on screen...less so for print. Make sure your settings look like this and you'll be golden! (You can also share the file with us and we'll take it from there!) 🤓👌🌟

You'll almost certainly hear these terms if you work with us...but what do they mean, and which is better? 🤔 🧐

In short: it depends on the end product! A raster image – basically, any photo – allows for an extremely wide range of color and detail, but will start to degrade in quality as it increases in size.

A vector image, since it resizes mathematically, can be sized for a business card or a billboard with no quality loss...but isn't the best choice for photorealism.

If you're not sure, just ask us and we'll guide you to the best choice for your project! 👌

When designing a brochure, it's important to account for the fold measurements early on in setup! 📏 💻 🤓 In most cases, the panels need to be sized so that in finishing, they can "tuck in" without crunching/wrinkling. Measurements will vary by the fold type and number of panels, so if you're not sure, contact us for a template before you get started...yes, even on Canva!

When it comes to color, what you see onscreen can't always print! 👀 ✨ Here's why: RGB (screens) can display a much wider range of visible colors than can be reproduced in CMYK (print) – so some of the brightest colors on screen will be significantly muted when converted for process printing. By starting your print pieces in the CMYK colorspace, that range (or 'gamut') limitation will automatically be accounted for, and what you see will be much closer to the finished product we can achieve.

: when you’re designing a piece for print, everything has a place! 🧐 💻 Keep important information in a ‘safe area’ at least .25” in from the edge of the paper. If you want an image or color to continue off the edge of the sheet, add a ‘bleed’ of .125” on all sides – after printing, we trim off the extra to leave you with a clean finished result! (And if you ever need a template, get in touch…we’ll make them for any design app, including Canva!)
