Sawmill Parkway-Section Line roundabout partial access opening Sept. 6; full opening on Sept. 23. More below.
Work continues on the Sawmill Parkway roundabout at Section Line Road, but the intersection will be open for partial access on Sept. 6. Southbound Section Line traffic will have access to Sawmill Parkway and westbound Sawmill traffic will be able to travel north on Section Line. This includes for quarry traffic. Once the south leg of the roundabout is complete, the entire intersection will be open on 9/23/24.
The latest on the Point Improvement Project is below. The webpage www.delawareohio.net/pointproject includes a live video feed and more project information.
Here is an update on the Point Project including upcoming changes to the traffic pattern:
* During the week of 9/8/24, US36/SR37 traffic will be switched to the south side of the road so that work can take place on the north side. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained between the railroad bridge and SR 521. This change in traffic pattern will continue through Spring 2025.
* During this phase, the Bowtown Road intersection at US 36/SR 37 will be closed. Access to Bowtown (including all intersecting streets and driveways) will be maintained from SR 521.
* Steel girders for the temporary railroad bridge will be installed the nights of Tuesday 9/10/24 through Thursday 9/12/24. Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night, 36/37 traffic will be stopped completely for 15-minute intervals while the steel girders are put in place over the roadway. After each 15-minute traffic stoppage, 36/37 traffic will be opened back up and all traffic will be cleared prior to the next 15-minute stoppage.
As a reminder, the City has established a project webpage that can be accessed going to www.delawareohio.net/pointproject. The webpage includes a live video feed and project information. Information on this page will be updated, as needed, and updates will also appear on the City’s Access Delaware page. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

It was a pleasure to welcome to the City Hall Camp Delaware Conference Room the creators of the “Camp Delaware” historical musical. The show was created by Delaware residents Francine and Mark Butler and debuted in February. “Camp Delaware" tells the history of the Civil War-era training camp in Delaware, where African Americans trained to fight for the Union, and of the life of Black soldiers heading to war. The camp was located near Olentangy Avenue and the Olentangy River, from 1862 to the end of the war.
The Butlers, Walsh University associate history professor Kelly Mezurek and videographer Zane Soliday used the conference room mural as a backdrop to shoot narration footage. The mural is of a photo taken in 1863 of Black soldiers in formation on Sandusky Street. The footage will be used in a video version of the musical and soon will be available for screenings. Proceeds from both the stage and video productions will benefit the local Community Arts Network scholarships for African American high school graduates pursuing performing arts degrees. Thanks to everyone that came out to support our Olentangy River Clean Up! Watershed Coordinator Lisa Roberts along with volunteers and community partners Keep Delaware County Beautiful, Delaware Public Health District, Olentangy Watershed Alliance, and Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed collected 1000 lbs of trash from our river. Many items were removed by the 70 volunteers including sleeping bags, glass bottles, folding chairs, bikes, batteries, and lots of plastic bottles.
Several City staff were on hand helping out including new City Manager Paul J. Brake.
♻️Good news!♻️ The City is now participating in the Hefty ReNew Recycling Program! You may have seen the newer orange bags for sale next to your regular trash bags at the store. Now City residents can use these bags to recycle more items than previously allowed.
Thanks to a grant from the Delaware Knox Marion Morrow Solid Waste District, we are able to offer a free box of these orange bags at our Public Works Department to the first 270 residents (1 box per household).
