Fridays: The Doorway to the Weekend
For some, Fridays are universally cherished as the beginning of the weekend. But there is more to this day than just the end of the workweek.
Fridays have a unique charm that makes them stand out. It’s the day when the collective sigh of relief can be heard around the world. The anticipation of two days of freedom transforms even the most mundane tasks into bearable activities. It’s the day when people start planning their weekend adventures. There is a sense of accomplishment (real or not) after a week of hard work. Even coffee tastes better!
As we approach Labor Day, a holiday dedicated to honoring the American labor movement and the contributions of workers, Fridays take on an even more significant role. Labor Day weekend is often seen as the unofficial end of summer, a time for barbecues, parades, and family gatherings. The Friday leading into Labor Day weekend is particularly special, as it marks the beginning of a long weekend filled with relaxation and celebration.
Feel free to use these words at your discretion:
Fri-YAY
Fly-Day
Fry-Day
Fri-nally
Fri-licious
The MAC Legacy Team wishes you have a wonderful long weekend filled with whatever you want to do!

The Power of Gratitude in Healthcare
Did you know that cultivating an attitude of gratitude can significantly improve both your well-being and your professional relationships? Studies show that healthcare professionals who regularly practice gratitude experience lower stress levels, increased job satisfaction, and better patient outcomes. When we focus on what we’re thankful for, even in challenging times, we can find renewed energy and purpose in our work.
At MAC Legacy, we believe in the transformative power of gratitude. It’s a cornerstone of how we support our clients, ensuring that every interaction is rooted in appreciation for the work you do and the difference you make every day. As we continue to navigate the complexities of home health and hospice care, let’s take a moment to express gratitude—for our colleagues, for our patients, and for the opportunity to make a positive impact.

The integration of technology into end-of-life care is revolutionizing hospice services, bringing both significant opportunities and complex challenges. On one hand, advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, and telehealth have greatly enhanced care delivery, streamlined operations, and improved both patient outcomes and staff satisfaction. On the other hand, these innovations have introduced new risks, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity, necessitating careful management to safeguard patient data.

Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) is more than halfway through its second performance year. However, many agencies have yet to prioritize it due to the absence of immediate financial impacts. It is important for agencies to understand and prepare for the potential effect to reimbursement that will begin in 2025.
The VBP initiative is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of care provided to the patient and reimbursement is tied to better outcomes. Navigating the current and future elements of VBP and implementing strategies to improve takes time and resources that many agencies are lacking.
MAC Legacy can help with this process by evaluating your current data and working with your agency to implement a plan for education and monitoring for the current performance year and prepare for the changes that are coming in 2025 and future performance years.

Hospice Final Rule Released by CMS
On July 30, 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the Hospice Final Rule for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 in the Federal Register, bringing several important updates.
The rule increases the hospice wage index and aggregate cap amount by 2.9%, up from the proposed 2.6% increase released in March 2024. This is an estimated $790 million boost in payments compared to FY 2024. The hospice cap amount for FY 2025 is set at $34,465.34.
It adopts the latest Office of Management and Budget (OMB) statistical area delineations, which will affect the hospice wage index. Additionally, the rule clarifies policies related to the "election statement" and "notice of election" and includes technical updates to the Conditions of Participation (CoPs).
Significant changes are made to the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP). Two new process measures (Timely Follow-up for Pain Impact and Timely Follow-up for Non-Pain Symptom Impact) will be incorporated into HQRP by FY 2028, with data collection starting in October 2025 using the new Hospice Outcomes and Patient Evaluation (HOPE) instrument. This instrument will replace the Hospice Item Set (HIS) and will collect data at multiple points during the hospice stay.
Updates to the Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) survey include a new web-mail mode, a shortened survey, revised administration protocols, and new and revised measures. The final implementation of these changes is delayed until April 2025.
The rule addresses comments on potential policies for high-intensity palliative care treatments and explores social determinants of health (SDoH) elements. Updates on health equity initiatives, future quality measures, and public reporting requirements are also provided.
These regulations will take effect on October 1, 2024, marking significant advancements in hospice care policies and reporting.
