Today I got word that my mentor and friend, Grant Leighton, passed away. Grant's influence on my photography cannot be measured. He was one of two people in the world I trusted for advice on my work. He understood what I was trying to say and how I wanted to say it.

Grant was the first person I would go to when I was in a creative rut, struggling with a project, or just plain... struggling. He would drop what he was doing to come over and talk me through the problem, or simply say, "it's s**t, mate; move on to something else."

Some of my fondest memories are when we would meet at Pete's Kitchen and talk for hours about pictures we liked (and didn't like) over comforting breakfast food. I was heartbroken when he left Denver and heartbroken again today. My thoughts are with his wife and son, who he absolutely adored.

The Family Albums of Ralph Eugene Meatyard (2006) "Billboards in any art are the first things that one sees—the masks might be interpreted as billboards. Once you get past the billboard then you can see into the past (forest, etc.), the present, & the future. I feel that because of the “strange” that more attention is paid to backgrounds &

Saddened to hear Peter Lindbergh died yesterday at the age of 74. 💔⠀
-
One of the most talented and celebrated fashion photographers of our time, Lindbergh introduced a new era in fashion photography, breaking with the excessive retouching and redefining the traditional beauty standard. On this subject, he once said: “This should be the responsibility of photographers today to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection.” His iconic image cover, shot for British Vogue in 1990, was recognized as “the birth certificate of the supermodels.” In a recent interview in 2017 with Vogue Italia, he admitted that when he was asked to shoot the cover, in order to convey his personal vision of a woman, he "couldn’t just photograph one single girl." What he was looking for "was a new purpose, and new feminine determination. And that was something that couldn’t just relate to one individual, but to a whole generation." ⠀
