Doulas are now covered under Colorado’s Medicaid program. What does this mean for parents and babies in the state? 08/07/2024

As of July 1, doula services are a covered benefit for those enrolled in Colorado's Medicaid program, including Colorado Access members. Joy Twesigye, vice president of health systems integration at Colorado Access, recently spoke to KUNC 91.5fm about this change and how it impacts families.

This critical care is available during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Doulas can help educate and advocate for birthers throughout the process and also assist with breastfeeding, pumping, spotting signs of depression, connecting to resources, etc.

Persist has worked with Colorado Access over the past 3+ years to amplify voices like Joy's, show the impact of its work in the community, and spread its mission: to partner with communities and empower people through access to quality, equitable and affordable care.

Doulas are now covered under Colorado’s Medicaid program. What does this mean for parents and babies in the state? Pregnant people on Medicaid now have coverage for doula services. Evidence shows that increased doula care improves maternal and infant health. On today’s In the NoCo hear why Medicaid recipients stand to gain the most from having access to doulas.

The Colfax Canvas mural festival will return for year five this fall, bringing together 10 artists to collaborate on large-scale murals in Aurora’s East Colfax neighborhood.

30+ world-class murals can already be found throughout the Aurora Cultural Arts District from years’ past, and this year, four new ones will be added.

Murals will be painted between September 2 and 14, with a culminating block party on September 14 from noon to 5 p.m. on Fletcher Plaza. The event features guided walking tours, an artisan market, DJed music, activities for families, and a food court of arts district chefs and local brews.

We're so glad to be part of the team again this year! This festival is full of stories from artists, business owners and community members that are just waiting to be told.

An Ode to Kohlrabi, This Year's Most Underrated Colorado Vegetable 07/26/2024

CLIENT BYLINE: Denver Westword published the first-ever byline for City Park Farmers Market co-owner Margo Wanberg, who has strong feelings about Colorado produce and some advice for market goers: don’t skip the kohlrabi!

Some great places to grab yours this Saturday include Croft Family Farm and Monroe Organic Farms.

Let us know if you join the Kohlrabi fan club after reading (and eating)!

An Ode to Kohlrabi, This Year's Most Underrated Colorado Vegetable Margo Wanberg, co-owner of the City Park Farmers Market, says that if you try this bulbous brassica, it will be love at first bite.

We're approaching peak growing season in Colorado which means farmers markets like City Park Farmers Market will be overflowing with fresh produce. CPFM is a growers-focused market, meaning all the farms sell only what they grow.

Look forward to peaches, corn, watermelon, green beans and summer squash very soon and then apples, broccoli, melon, bell peppers, plums and pears later in the season. This is *just* a taste - the list goes on!

I appreciate Margo and Peter's dedication to transparency so every customer can know the people growing their food, where it comes from and even the farm's growing practices. That's the way to run a farmers market!

See you this summer.

Your Ultimate Guide to Denver Fringe Festival 2024 06/12/2024

That's a wrap! Our campaign for the 5th annual Denver Fringe festival is complete, resulting in 40 unique press hits and nearly 90M potential media impressions. We can't take credit for all of it, though. Executive director Ann Sabbah has strong press relationships and takes on some of the outreach herself, landing pieces like this print + digital feature in Denver Westword and several others.

After three years of PR support on this festival I finally got to fully experience it, attending the artist kick-off party and several shows. My little girl even got to attend a KidsFringe show! I know now even more than before it really is something special, from intimate and gripping performances to high energy full-house dance parties.

Did you make it out? Comment below with your favorite show or what you'd like to see next year.

Five years of Fringe! Denver Fringe returns June 6-9, celebrating five years of supporting independent arts and artists. This year, they've got 60+ original shows across 20 venues and locations concentrated in RiNo and Five Points.

New this year, the festival is adding FringeART, its first visual art component and show at Ironton Distillery & Crafthouse; the Fringe Free-For-All, featuring pop-up street performances; a satellite location at The People's Building in Aurora; and a partnership + performances at The Bug Theatre.

These additional elements allow the festival to further embody its mission of making the arts accessible to all. With tickets costing just $15 for most shows, the community is invited out to experience and enjoy live performance art!

A website refresh has been long overdue - since I designed one myself in the fall of 2020. This time I put it in the hands of professionals and the team at Cognoscenti Creative worked wonders. They put together a design and copy that better show and describe Persist's process, focus and experience.

So hop on over to the new www.PersistPublicity.com and let me know what you think!

NEW TEAM MEMBER! BreAnna Davis joins the Persist team this month, but she and Jess go way back. They first met through swing dancing, then worked together in the film and entertainment industry, and still connect regularly as moms.

With ten years of experience in communications and events, BreAnna is a skilled PR professional who is especially passionate about connecting like-minded people through great storytelling.

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, BreAnna moved to Denver in 2014 after taking a gap year to travel and volunteer with various nonprofits in Southeast Asia, Southern Africa and Eastern Europe. She grew up attending and working at summer camps all around Oklahoma, which helped teach her the value of focused, screen-free time to connect with other people and hear their stories.

BreAnna now lives in Littleton with her husband and two young children. While she previously taught and competed as a swing dancer, now you can find her at the occasional social dance night at La Rumba or the Mercury Cafe in Denver.

Guadalupe Hernandez Art says his residency at Art Students League of Denver has allowed him to shift his focus from "palatable to personal" and create art that is truly meaningful to him.

Sharing his story and work through press is an honor, including this cover story with Wash Park Profile. Going into his studio today to see the paintings and Papel Picado pieces in person really brought the process full circle.

Be sure to check out his exhibit opening April 26 (running through June 1) and/or his Papel Picado workshop on May 5, all at ASLD.

In just TWO MONTHS you can start spending your Saturday mornings at City Park Farmers Market - opening early on May 4 for a full six-month season!

Fresh produce, sunshine, local treats, chef demos, live music... it has become a Denver staple and tradition for good reason. I can't wait to spread out a blanket and picnic in the grass, shop for groceries and goodies, and see all of my farm friends.

SO much more to come including the full vendor lineup, chef demo and music schedules, and other food-focused developments.

Another day another print pickup! Love seeing PineMelon and its local partner Ullr’s Garden on the front page of this community newspaper. Here's an excerpt highlighting what makes this partnership work:

For a new hydroponic farm like Ullr’s Garden, Millisor said PineMelon has been a huge asset. After leaving a career in real estate in 2021 following a wave of climate disasters across the globe, Millisor was looking for a way to meaningfully contribute to the climate space. With his brother Luke Millisor and cousin Ian Randall on board, Ullr’s Garden was born.

“They’ve helped us get a lay of the land,” said the hydroponic farmer. “There is no one size fits all solution to any of this. I’m always trying to think of not necessarily how to create a perfect world but how to make small adjustments, which PineMelon is all about.”

February marks the print debut for Uncle Tim's Cocktails, featured in this month's issue of Denver Life Magazine!

Thank you Sahale Greenwood for the beautiful write up, including my favorite line: "The Denver brand’s mission: to bring the sophistication of a bar-crafted beverage into the comfort of your home—or anywhere else for that matter."

Pick up an issue on local newsstands and get your bottled cocktail on the Uncle Tim's website or at select local liquor stores. I just picked up the boulevardier and will definitely be cracking it open to stay warm during this weekend's storm.

🥐 NATIONAL CROISSANT DAY 🥐 - Today is a day to celebrate the flaky laminated favorite, croissants! How exactly will you do that? Here are some ideas from Rebel Bread:

1️⃣ Pick up a pastry at any of Rebel’s 50 local coffee shop partners or place an order online through Bread Club.
2️⃣ See how they’re made: Sign up for Rebel’s bakery factory tour to get an insider’s look at the pastry and bread-making process
3️⃣ Make a croissant bake: sweet or savory, with fresh produce or pantry staples, for breakfast or brunch!

In addition to Rebel’s classic croissant offerings, it also has two limited specials through March 31: the K-Pop Croissant (Korean chili powder, Nori seaweed, spicy sweet honey) and a Red Velvet Chocolate Croissant (red velvet dough, dark chocolate batons + chocolate ganache drizzle).

Insider’s tip: make a k-pop croissant breakfast sandwich!

The PineMelon indoor farmers market connected local farmers, ranchers, small-batch producers and artisans with their community for a night of tasting, shopping, conversation and good times.

What I picked up: Fox Fungi, Kream Kimchi Co (beet poke and kimchi dip) and so many Masi Masa: Spice Without Borders spices! I also really enjoyed tasting Lottie's Meats, Gnarly Mountain cookies and Hazlo.

Now I have even more brands to support and goodies to buy the next time I shop on PineMelon.

Emerging artists share what representation in the arts means to them 01/10/2024

From the outside, Hannah Lim wasn’t sure what a future in the arts would look like for her. When an internship opportunity gave her an inside perspective, she said the possibilities suddenly seemed endless. Now, Lim runs her own pottery studio, where she prioritizes arts accessibility.

The Diversity in the Arts internship program, run by the Art Students League of Denver, is geared towards college students or recent graduates from communities who don’t often see themselves reflected in the arts, including students of color, LGBTQ+ students and students with disabilities.

The above are excerpts from a lovely piece from Rocky Mountain PBS (linked below), which is very worthy of a full read. This Art Students League of Denver program is making a real difference in people's lives and in the greater arts community. It's a story I'm honored to share.

Black Coloradans suffer higher maternal and infant mortality rates. Three groups are working to change that. 01/08/2024

Persist got to help shine a very deserving spotlight on the work being done by Mama Bird in collaboration with our client Colorado Access.

These organizations have developed programs to address and improve Black maternal health disparities, including providing training and mentoring to BIPOC doulas and helping Black birthing families on Medicaid get the services and support they need.

This work is beyond important and extremely impactful. Articles from The Denver Gazette and The Colorado Sun share personal stories, look at the big picture and recognize these efforts. Links below.

Media agree - Uncle Tim's Cocktails make a great gift! Check out these recommendations from 5280 Magazine, The Denver Post and 303 Magazine

Share your favorite cocktail variation or give the experience of a tasting flight. The Manhattan, Negroni or Old Fashioned series are available at the Tasting Room (1150 S. Lipan St.), select liquor stores, and area holiday markets (my vote: Cherry Creek Holiday Market) - there's still time to shop + sip!

After farmers market season, Denver-area producers seek other ways to sell their food 12/07/2023

(Producer) partners say it best. Here's an excerpt from a recent Denver Post article about Colorado producers looking for better ways to distribute their food, including partnering with PineMelon.

"Nick Millisor said he and the other founders of Ullr’s Garden initially took on marketing and delivering the lettuce, basil and arugula they grow hydroponically in freight crates in southwest Denver. 'It was like us hitting our heads against a brick wall,' he said.

Nick, his brother, Luke Millisor, and cousin, Ian Randall, now sell about 60% of their goods through Pinemelon. Their produce is delivered in refrigerated trucks. Ullr’s Garden also sells its produce through CSAs and restaurants.

Randall said trying to sell through grocery stores 'is a real hurdle for local producers.'

'The grocery stores say they’ll let you in, but there’s so much red tape,' Randall said. 'Pinemelon is actually doing it.'

After farmers market season, Denver-area producers seek other ways to sell their food Local food producers in Colorado are finding new ways to get their products to people’s tables long after the farmers markets have packed away their stands for the season.

Happy November 1st - the unofficial kick-off of the holiday season! It's time to turn on the seasonal tunes, walk under twinkling lights and get a head start on those shopping lists. In just 15 days you'll have the chance to do it all at the 4th annual Cherry Creek Holiday Market!

Open for 36 days of shopping, the market features 40+ rotating vendor booths lining both sides of Fillmore Plaza with a focus on Colorado-based companies and artisans creating extraordinary products.

New this year is the Mistletoe Lounge experience, a highly decorated and cozy gathering space with a full bar, live music from local acts, and interactive holiday crafts and activities.

More to come including vendor highlights, the live music schedule and of course, the press coverage!

A new artist in residence started at Art Students League of Denver this month and continues through May 2024. Guadalupe Hernandez is using these eight months to create a body of work recognizing the sacrifices made by his family and the hidden jobs they -and other immigrants- have taken on.

Hernandez also continues to bring awareness to the tradition of Papel Picado, a Mexican folk art in which images or patterns are cut out of paper, and the artists who work to produce and preserve this art form.

By creating elaborate Papel Picado portraits and figurative oil paintings with gestural brushwork, Hernandez examines and celebrates his cultural identity, which helps him form an even deeper connection to his Mexican heritage.

Visit ASLD this November 11 for a chance to go Inside the Studio with Hernandez, learn about his creative process and see some of his works in progress.

NEW CLIENT: Uncle Tim's Cocktails is taking the ready-to-drink spirit industry by storm - and they're based right here in Denver. Uncle Tim's has been giving Coloradans a reason to celebrate since launching its spirit-forward bottled cocktail sets early last year.

Founders Tim Felkner and Patrick Stern share an ethos of bringing people together. The partners built upon their launch by opening a Denver Tasting Room in January to host intimate salon dinners, comedy and craft nights, private events and tastings by reservation.

This November, Uncle Tim's Cocktails is releasing its third cocktail set, adding to its current Negroni and Manhattan offerings -- an Old Fashioned Series -- and a limited run Barrel Aged Black Walnut Manhattan.

Persist is on board to share the Uncle Tim's story... and it's SUCH a good one. Follow along to hear all about it.

Connection, community and gajar ka halwa cheesecake: Denver bake-off excites cooks of all sorts 10/06/2023

If someone had told me five years ago that my favorite bakery would be hosting Denver's first baking festival and that I'd be doing the PR, I wouldn't have been able to imagine such a path. Now I'm here and living it... and still pinching myself.

But it goes beyond just "doing the PR" - I've really felt like a part of the Rebel Bread team for the past two years. Zach is one of the kindest and most genuine people I know, and these traits are reflected by all of the baking and support staff. It's a positive, creative and fun environment.

This morning as I listened to the Colorado Public Radio story about Denver Bake Fest I got the same warm and happy feelings I get each time I enter the bakery. Speaking to the participating bakers has been an amazing experience that will only be topped by meeting them in person tomorrow and tasting their baked creations.

Catch us again on CPR at 4:45pm today and in person tomorrow from 10am-noon at 675 S. Broadway.

Connection, community and gajar ka halwa cheesecake: Denver bake-off excites cooks of all sorts More than 80 bakers have thrown their oven mitts in the ring for the inaugural Bake Fest.
