All About Pikes Peak

Without a doubt, it’s Colorado’s most famous mountain. And while it’s neither the tallest mountain in Colorado nor the most difficult to scale, Pikes Peak is famous for its visibility from the plains, its use as a symbol of the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush, and for the legendary explorer for whom it is named. Zebulon Montgomery Pike, a U.S. Army soldier, arrived in present-day Colorado in 1806 to explore the lands that were now a part of the United States as a result of the Louisiana Purchase. Pike and his men were assigned to search out the source of the […]

Preserving Colorado land through conservation easements
https://www.coloradovirtuallibrary.org/resource-sharing/state-pubs-blog/conservation-easements-2/
Colorado is a popular state to live in and visit, largely because of its iconic landscapes. As the population grows, a question pops up: how does the state protect the very land that attracts visitors and new residents? Conservation easements are one tool that the state uses to help preserve natural landscapes for the future. What is a conservation easement? In simple language, a conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and another organization that restricts how the land can be used, now and in the future, in order to permanently protect the land. Locations are selected for […]

This discussion panel delves into the lived experiences of Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Q***r (LGBTQ+) identity and mental health within the context of library work. LGBTQ+ library workers face unique challenges stemming from societal stigma, discrimination, and workplace environments. Many individuals still face prejudice and discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, both within and outside of the workplace. This can manifest in various ways, from microaggressions and exclusion to overt acts of discrimination. Such experiences can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression, impacting job performance and job satisfaction.

This session aims to shed light on these challenges, explore coping strategies, and foster a supportive dialogue to promote mental health and resilience among LGBTQ library professionals.
