We MUST maintain 12 State Senate Seats and here’s why!

Colorado Senate Republicans must maintain a minimum of 12 seats. 12 is the number of conservative Senators we need. If that changes, and Democrats have a 24-vote SuperMajority, they would gain the following powers:

-Amend the Colorado Constitution
With 24 votes, Democrats could bypass the petition process and simply vote to place a question on the ballot amending the state constitution.

-Override a Governor’s veto
With 24 votes, Democrats would hold 2/3 of the seats in both chambers, meaning they could override gubernatorial veto of more extreme legislation passed by the body.

-Suspend the Senate Rules
With 24 votes, Democrats can change any rules of procedure or vote to suspend all Senate rules without Republican consent.
Such action would give Democrats the ability to, among other things, expedite bills through the legislative process, leaving less time for public scrutiny. (Normally a bill must be scheduled two days after it is heard in committee. With 24 votes, Democrats could vote to hear the bill that same day on the floor).

-Increase or diminish the number of judicial districts and/or district judges
Any bill that increases or decreases the number of judges or judicial districts requires 24 votes.

This is why the Senate Majority Fund’s effort to elect Republicans into the Colorado State Senate is so critical! Democrats having a SuperMajority would be extremely detrimental to our State and with your help, we can make sure it never happens.

While it was raining outside last night, we were cozy inside at one of our favorite annual events, SMF’s Churchills Reception! Thanks to all our friends and supporters who showed up.

Great news! Mayor Coffman’s campaign for re-election is getting some welcome attention. Last week, the Denver Gazette endorsed his re-election, stating:

“Aurora has never before had a mayor quite like Mike Coffman. And it’s not just because of the lifelong Auroran’s extraordinary resume: U.S. Marine Corps Reserve officer; longtime state legislator; Colorado state treasurer; Colorado secretary of state; five-term U.S. congressman. It’s also because he speaks his mind, does what he thinks is right and blazes his own trails — whether or not it’s popular with the press or the political class. … Coffman has embraced a winning formula to get Aurora back on track and keep it there. Reelect Mike Coffman for Aurora mayor.”

The Denver Gazette noted his “leadership” and “unflinching, independent thinking” as I have worked to address crime, homelessness and other critical issues facing our city. But there is so much work left to be done in Aurora, and that’s why I am campaigning hard to continue as Aurora’s mayor.

Great hearing about the NO on Proposition HH campaign from Michael Fields today at the Centennial Institute monthly business council breakfast.

Proposition HH will appear on the November 2023 ballot. It is the single biggest policy issue this year and perhaps even this decade, driving up housing costs, making Colorado less affordable, and having an adverse impact on the economy. Please do your research on this HUGE tax increase that ends taxpayer refunds!

Mayor Coffman did a great job today speaking to Ladies 4 Liberty! He discussed his continued plan to combat homelessness and crime in Aurora when he is re-elected this November.

WestBrooke Group is excited to be supporting Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman’s re-election campaign and assisting with his fundraising effort! Mayor Coffman was elected in November 2019 and has faithfully served the residents of Aurora since taking office. Now, he’s running for re-election as Mayor to continue helping Aurora thrive and prosper.

Coffman's career has been dedicated to defending our country and making a difference for Aurora. Before becoming Mayor, Mike served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. After 20 years of military service, Coffman was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives. He was then elected first to the Colorado State Senate, then as Colorado's State Treasurer and finally as Colorado's Secretary of State. In 2008, Mike went to Washington as he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the 6th Congressional District in Colorado.

Mike is dedicated to continuing to tackle all of Aurora's challenges, specifically fighting crime, preventing homelessness and increasing the supply of affordable housing.
