During the day I teach heavy lifts, but at night I play heavy riffs. I have recently been asked questions from my musician peers concerning common pains and issues from touring. Starting Oct. 2nd I will start a series called Musician Mondays where I discuss these issues. This first video will be discussing how to properly load up your big dumb amp cabinets. If you have questions you'd like answered please send me a message to be seen on my series!

"Not worth my time" is something my high school weight lifting "coach" said to me. At the time being 120lbs my senior year, I didn't seem important enough to give attention to. But with drive and confidence I am continually creeping towards my goals. Confidence is key for success, especially in fitness. You can't look at yourself or even where you are currently at in a negative light. You are currently making a change. You aren't a failure. You ARE worth the time. Take time, hit those goals, and plow through the ones that say "not worth my time."
I am here to help you with anything you need in your fitness journey. For personal training or any questions, please reach out!

I have always had a great appreciation for our men and women that serve our country. My client Ryan serves in the army. We struck up a conversation back in August about how he would like to perform better at his combat fitness tests. Comparing his scores from August to now we have greatly improved most of his scores, adding 41 total points. We will continue improving! Congratulations to my client Ryan for such a big improvement!

How do you feel in your own body? Many people struggle with a lack of confidence in themselves, especially with their own body. Contrary to popular belief, many of the strong guys and gals in the gym struggle too. I know I struggle sometimes. You aren't alone in your struggles. Personal training isn't just a means to be strong, lose weight, etc. Those all help, but they may not directly fix how you view yourself. I don't just teach form and programming. I teach confidence. I desire for you to feel satisfied in your body and love how you look and feel. How can I help you?

❌️ One of the most common objections I hear against resistance training, "I don't want to look like a bodybuilder." I promise you, you will not wake up one day and accidentally be at 0.03% body fat at 220lbs body weight.
✔️ Resistance training is important for EVERYBODY! Look at the difference between 2kg of fat vs 2kg of muscle. Muscle is an active tissue so it is always burning calories, which leads to more fat loss. Resistance training has other benefits such as stronger tendons, improve bone density, improved blood flow, injury prevention, longer life expectancy, and so much more!
Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain mass, improve mobility, I can help with all of the above. Reach out to me to talk about personal training!

Is hopping on the elliptical really what your gym membership is worth? The average person burns 350-450 calories per hour on the elliptical, but is that all you need? What about strength, balance, mobility, functionality, longevity? My 68 year old client had a great workout working all the above and burned over 500 calories in an hour. Don't neglect these important qualities of life and fitness. Set up a free training session with me today!

From the article: "By developing pelvic stability, these muscles also can help prevent knee pain, as an unstable pelvis can result in more force on the knee. Conversely, weak glutes can lead to chronic lower back pain, which can progress to degenerative disc disease."
Your knowledge from back in high school gym class doesn't provide you a well rounded routine. You are missing key muscles that help prevent injuries, improve pain, and correct posture. Are you in pain because of 'genetics' or because of a lack of muscle? Contact me to see how personal training can improve your life!

These are unpublished, but we can't be surprised that a foreign substance over time could progress arthritis instead of slow it. Drugs come and go, often with side effects. You know one proven way to slow down the advancement of arthritis? Professionally assisted exercise. Don't ignore your areas of arthritis, target them with professional assistance. Back pain is on the rise, but why? As modern society progresses, more and more people become sedentary. The CDC reports in 2022 that 25% of adults are physically inactive. This inactivity leads to WEAK back muscles, WEAKENED core stability, and lack of knowledge of one's body. Thus giving way to improper biomechanics, leading to pain and in severe cases, disability.
Research shows that most back pain is due to mechanical issues, such as lifting a box improperly.

Weight Lifting in Old Age Does More Than Just Keep Your Muscles Strong 10/05/2022

✔️ Improve tendon and nerve connections
✔️ Improve back and joint pain
✔️ Overall mobility
✔️ Improve bone density
✔️ Slow progressive issues such as osteoporosis
All this and more from resistance training. Just because you are 60 and up doesn't mean your time to thrive is over! Let's get you feeling good again! Schedule an appointment with me today!

From the article:

-From twinges in the back to pain in the knees, the indication is that weight training can slow down some of this breakdown between muscles and the nervous system, without actually reversing it. The researchers suggest that starting earlier in life can build up 'reserves' that the body can fall back on.

-"Of course, the sooner you start, the better, but it is never too late – even if you are 65 or 70 years old. Your body can still benefit from heavy weight training."

-Although this study was done in men, this applies to women, too: for example, older women, who are more prone to osteoporosis, benefit from resistance training just as much as men do.

Weight Lifting in Old Age Does More Than Just Keep Your Muscles Strong New research into weight lifting has revealed two insights: that the practice is able to strengthen the connections between nerves and muscles, and that this strengthening can still happen in the later years of our lives.
