Hey everyone! WSU Slavic Klub, despite our collective un-collectiveness, still exists! We've definitely been in hibernation for a few weeks here, especially after the Belarus trip was cancelled for this year, and, well, due to everything else. However,we can still move forward and take action. Perhaps now more than ever social outreach is recognized for how meaningful it is.
As such, if you are feeling isolated and alone, please reach out via the email or one of the Slavic Klub's social media platforms. Additionally, with the plethora of mediums available, there is still the possibility of continuing movie nights and other events, it will just require more creativity! Via zoom, watch2gether, or netflixparty, we have a number of options to explore Slavic culture as a group.

Event 1: By the end of the day today, (3/31/20), there will be another message announcing a movie night/day time and platform, with access information.

Event 2: Also, in lieu of in-person Russia Tea, on Thursdays from 12:30-1:30pm, Laura Kline will be hosting a weekly Russian-English Poetry Circle via zoom. Here is the link to connect:
https://zoom.us/j/683056100

Event 3: Tomorrow, Wednesday April 1st, Alexei Navalny, the prominent Russian opposition figure, will be participating in a webinar at the University of Michigan this Wednesday at 9 am. You are welcome to watch!
https://ii.umich.edu/crees/news-events/events.detail.html/73961-18449694.html?fbclid=IwAR3gxw0t_JuW6mXz9lPbyWa_yQHm65608ipKKj4LTnE0YgRLEwUVx05zgl8

Event 4: Tomorrow, Wednesday April 1st, 1-2 pm, Career Webinar with the Department of State. Join our webinar with US Department of State Diplomat in Residence Lou Fintor on Wednesday, April 1, from 1-2 pm. Here is the link: https://zoom.us/j/822885500
If you have any problems connecting to the meeting, email Laura Kline at [email protected]. She will be monitoring my email during the session. All are welcome to participate!

If you are interested or have questions about any of the events listed above, please contact the Slavic Klub via email or Facebook.
What it means to be social in this time will change, and that's okay. Though we are all isolated in our own little submarines, so to speak, the ocean is vast, but sound travels easily. Make some noise, and if you are secure financially and safe and healthy, take this time to reflect personally. Meditation and personal growth can come with periods of quietude. But if you are feeling alone, we are all in this together, and there are many of us out there going through it together. Please reach out!

All the best,
Andrew

MOVIE NIGHT TONIGHT
MANO 446
6:30 to End
(film starts about 6:45, part 1 of Stalker runs about an hour fifteen minutes)

Hey all!

Tonight on the smaller screen we will be watching the first half of Tarkovsky's surreal classic "Stalker"! The movie concerns philosophical questions of potential, desire, need, hope, and faith. What questions can be answered about ourselves and our world when we try to fulfill our grandest desires?

Inspired by a 1950s Russian science fiction novella, "Roadside Picnic", and in turn inspiring the Ukrainian video game STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, this movie has lingered in public consciousness since it's creation.

Come one, come all!
