This past Saturday the Bear den completed Bear habitat. The focus of this adventure prior to our hike was to prepare for a one mile walk/hike with our 6 essentials and weather appropriate clothing. We identified our trail on a map and confirmed our route while also learning about the path and surrounding area as well as our fire danger rating. We put our planning to work and we were prepared and ready for the 2.3 mile hike that we completed. Along the hike we utilized our maps, 6 essentials and dressed appropriately. We learned a fun hand mnemonic device to cover our Leave No Trace principals. We also took our sketchbooks and made notes of our memories from the hike as well as identified 6+ signs of wildlife. We also practiced being kind to visitors while on the path. We ended our hike with hot chocolate while using our Ft Drum Nature Detectives Guide to identify the leaves 🍁 we colleected. This was an amazing journey. The families were so engaged. We truly had a great time. Do Your Best!
This past Monday Pack 55 held there first Pack Meeting of the year celebrating all that our Scouts have achieved! Everyone had a great time with our Halloween inspired event! A special thanks to the Dexter American Legion for allowing us to hold our event at their location. We appreciate their support of our Pack & Troop! 🎃👻
🇺🇲 Last night the Webelos started their citizenship adventure! They met with the mayor of Dexter (who could still recite the Scout Oath and Law with them from his time in Scouting), held a snack election to choose their next treat democratically, and learned about the electoral college and how both majority and plurality types of voting are used to elect the President of the United States.
This past weekend some of our Arrow of Light Scouts joined Troop 55 - Dexter, NY at the Brotherhood Camporee. It was a fun filled weekend of camping and activities. Additionally, a few of our Webelos Scouts stopped by for the day to participate in activities and attend the bonfire and music performed by the 10th Mountain Division Band.
This weekend the Webelos worked on the Webelos Walkabout and math on the trail. They used a sign posted with the leave no principles to discuss conservation on the trail and identified ways we followed them as we hiked along.
We stopped at the pond and beaver dam to discuss types of habitats and what is needed to have a successful habitat while observing other animals in nature including black squirrels, caterpillars, and geese.
We also calculated our quarter mile pace and did math on clipboards to estimate our 2-mile pace.
Great Work Webelos!!

The Bear Strong Adventure 🐻 💪 focused on the importance of health as a complete package (exercise, food, and rest). They played a game for our workout, they did a dance to stretch and did yoga 🧘 to calm their minds. They also made a healthy snack!
The Bobcat Bear Adventure spent time allowing the Scouts to get to know the members of their den with a bear line up as they work together to put themselves in line based on a category. They participated in a Scout Law Hop, a Lights Camera Action (skit), created a Code Conduct, reviewed the new position of a Denner, and Bobcat Relay. We spoke about when we did our best. Our Den Chief created our talking stick and helped with group skits!
