For over 56 years, the Literacy Council has served adults and businesses by offering classes, workshops, one-on-one tutoring, and off-site training. Through donations, this organization provides parents, workers, and neighbors with vital reading, English language, and computer skills. They can earn a high school equivalency degree, have help finding a job or enrolling in college, be able to help their children in school, and much more. Since their humble beginnings in 1968, they have helped thousands of adults reach their goals.

Yellow peaches are a variety of early season peaches known as clingstone โ characterized as a fruit whose flesh is attached to the pit. Clingstone fruit tends to be sweeter, juicier, and an all-around better piece of fruit. True to their name, a large amount of fruit clings to the pit, making them best eaten like an apple. $2.99/lb.

Hot summer days call for easy meals that require little to no cooking, so we're sharing this recipe from plant-based recipe creator and Kimberton Whole Foods customer, Sklyar Sokolowski! This simple and beautiful summer salad is easy to prepare on a busy weeknight and highlights the season's fresh produce ๐
๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐
What You'll Need:
2 cups cubed sourdough bread
2 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 cup raw cashews
5oz. organic spinach
1 cup shredded purple cabbage
1 yellow peach (sliced)
Juice from 1/2 lemon
1/8 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. honey
1 tsp. Himalayan salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a bowl, toss and coat the cubed sourdough bread in olive oil and add salt and pepper to taste. Spread on a baking sheet and place in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until crispy. Allow to cool before adding to the salad.
3. On another baking sheet, spread the cashews and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until toasted. These will also need to sit and cool before being added to the salad.
4. Add lemon juice, olive oil, honey, salt and pepper to a small bowl, whisk until well combined and set aside.
5. Spread the spinach on a serving plate and layer with the cabbage, toasted cashews, croutons, and sliced peaches. Drizzle with dressing, and serve!

This month, our Douglassville store is Rounding Up at the Register for CONCERN - Professional Services for Children, Youth, and Families.
CONCERN is a multi-service, private, non-profit human services organization that provides services to children, youth, and families, encouraging growth and promoting positive healthy lives. Services include foster care, adoption, and permanency, community-based prevention programs, behavioral health, and residential treatment. CONCERN began in 1978 as a foster care agency. Since then, they continue to meet the growing needs in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Currently, 15 sites bring hope, offer opportunity, and inspire change to over 7,500 individuals each year. All donations raised at the register will be designated to the local community.

Our Story
Our Douglassville location is set in the shadow of Monocacy Hill among the farms, vineyards and bakeries of Berks County. Located right off of Route 422 for easy access on the way to or from work, it's a one-stop shop for organic produce, raw dairy, humanely-raised meats, gourmet items, baked goods, supplements and natural body care and household items. Many of our local vendors tend their fields and herds nearby, giving us a robust source of fruits, vegetables and dairy produced within a few miles of the store.
