My nephew came up from Olney, Illinois (I know, where the hell is Olney, Illinois?) to compete in a summer track junior Olympic sectional. He advanced in the 200 and the long jump. Here are some images.

This weekend was art and festival-filled.

Saturday was the Midsummer Festival in Andersonville.
Andersonville is a far north side neighborhood. It is a very diverse, inclusive community that was settled by many Swedish immigrants over 100 years ago.

Sunday was the Wells Street art festival (old town). My memory of old town was the 70s. It was a hippy and weird hub. Ripley’s, believe it or not, wax museum, bizarre, bizarre head shop (music posters and tees). Today, it is gentrified and I consider it Gold Coast West. Has 0 sense of diversity or inclusion. Needless to say, I had a much better time at one fest than the other.

On a side note, as I was leaving Wells Street, I heard a commotion only to turn and see a man yelling and berating and threatening a man (with a severe spinal injury) in an electronic wheelchair because he bumped him with his chair. This pretty much encapsulated my experience at this event.

On Wednesday, Evan and I went to Rantoul, Illinois, to watch my nephew Aiden run in the IHSA sectional track meet. We had a blast, both being former track runners. Here are some photos of a few of the Olney track participants (mostly my nephew). Good luck at the state meet. Did I mention he qualified for state as a freshman?

We attended the first Eyes on Chicago architecture and street photography workshop this weekend and had a great time, here are several images from the weekend.

So Evan Gutierrez and I were shopping on Michigan Ave (near Ohio), and he noticed this unique pop-up shop he suggested we stop in.

To our pleasant surprise, COLORES MEXICANOS was a collective of artisans from 35 different artist groups in Mexico. We were so impressed with the mission, the space, the art, and the colors I offered to capture the space.

This year I photographed the 2021 Northalstead Halloween Parade. Funny story: Because I am solo this year I didn't want to put much effort into a costume. the lazy solution, 1930's reporter/photographer which was simply my daily attire, a fedora, and a card which read PRESS. Success, it was believable as the organizers asked me who I was shooting for? I assured him though I am a photographer and I was here simply to shoot for fun. he offered me a media pass which got me past all the barriers.

A day at sox park enjoying the last game of the season

Shortly after deciding to make photography my profession, I decided to take a couple of classes to better understand the proper way to get the most out of the investment of my first prosumer camera. I am basically self-taught aside from a million meetups workshops and pestering the real photographers I crossed paths with.
One of my assignments was to do a series of images that tell a story, I decided to go a step further and photograph my childhood neighborhood (west town/Ukrainian village) and I added text to my images explaining what I remembered 35ish years later, here is that project.
