At Goodwill, it is important for us to give back to the communities where we live, work and serve.

Dustin Kucharski, manager, Western Ave. Store & Donation Center, reflected on his experience with Acts of Goodwill, “Volunteering with the Acts of Goodwill program has been rewarding and a small but important way to give back to the communities in Chicago.”

Dustin arranged two volunteer events with a total of 15 Goodwill volunteers, resulting in 60 total volunteer hours in 2023. His dedication and efforts have made a positive impact, demonstrating the power of community involvement.

Paige Anderson, manager, Franklin Store & Donation Center, and 13 Goodwill volunteers supported the US Postal Service food drive benefiting the New Berlin Food Pantry in Waukesha County, WI.

The team, together with other community members, dedicated 26 hours to sorting and categorizing the donations dropped off by postal trucks.

Paige shared, “This event is one of the largest drives hosted for the New Berlin Food Pantry and was a true community effort. It was rewarding to see the community come together and help such a great cause.”

Mariola Smialek, area manager, stores, and seven Goodwill volunteers supported the work of Lazarus House in Kane County, IL, by helping maintain the facilities of this all-day access homeless shelter. They collectively volunteered a total of 14 hours.

Mariola shared, “Helping those in need was a firm reminder of what really matters – family, friends and health. Through this experience, our team discovered a new passion, gained insights about our community and learned more about ourselves. It was truly a great experience for us all.”
