🎄 Dunedin Goes Carting Decoration Contest - Let the Festive Fun Continue! 🎅

Dear Dunedin Goes Carting Community,
We hope this message finds you well. In light of inclement weather on Saturday, December 16th, we had to cancel the annual parade. We sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm and participation in this much-loved event.

But fear not! We've got some exciting news to keep the holiday spirit alive. We are introducing the Dunedin Goes Carting On-line Decoration Contest! 🚗✨

If you've put your heart and soul into crafting a holiday-themed golf cart, we want to celebrate your creativity. Here's how you can join the on-line contest:

📸 Take at least one photo of your beautifully decorated cart
🎁 Submit the photo(s) to the Dunedin Goes Carting page: https://www.facebook.com/dunedingoescarting in the comment section on the “Official Contest Submission” post no later than midnight on December 24th.

🏆 The anticipation builds as we'll announce the first, second, and third place winners on the Dunedin Goes Carting page by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 26th.

🚨Official Announcement 🚨

Due to tomorrow’s impending weather conditions and in consultation with the City of Dunedin and Pinellas County Sheriffs Office, we’ve had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel tomorrow night’s Christmas parade (12/16). There will still be a holiday gathering INSIDE the VFW for anyone who wants to attend, but the official parade, street closures etc. will sadly not be happening. This is for the safety of our participants and spectators, in addition to the deputies needed to execute the parade.

TONIGHT - a light tour through the northern part of town, starting at Pi Pizza (Pinehurst and San Christopher) is still a go, departing around 7:00. It will be your best opportunity to show off the decorations you had planned for tomorrow, so look your best and come out tonight. It is NOT an official parade - streets will not be closed - so please prepare for traffic delays and follow all traffic laws as normal in the area.

We are as bummed out as you are. Thanks to all who have helped make this event happen year in and year out - and we will see you tonight!

🚨Official Announcement:🚨

We of course are aware of the likely inclement weather this weekend, and realize it could possibly have a major impact on our planned festivities. Friday night’s light tour should be ok 🤞🏼, but Saturday night (12/16) is not looking good as of right now. Many other events around town are also watching the weather and having to deal with the same situation. Unfortunately due to the many moving parts of how big this event has gotten and after consulting the city, we are unable to plan for rescheduling, so the parade will need to proceed as planned (or not) Saturday night without any alternate date possible. However, since our priority is the safety of our attendees - both participants and spectators - if the weather is severe and the event is unable to safely proceed, we unfortunately will need to make the difficult decision to cancel the Saturday night parade.

This page () will be the only place for the official word on if the Saturday parade is a “go” or not, so please check back Saturday afternoon for whether or not it’s happening based on a real-time forecast for the night. Plan to decorate and hope for the best, but be prepared for the disappointment if weather does not allow. There are scenarios where the storm misses us, but our favorite local meteorologists (👀 Denis Phillips) all agree it’s probably gonna get us.

The potential of not having it this year breaks our hearts, but the forecast currently is calling for a few inches of rain Saturday night into Sunday, with likelihood of severe wind, squally conditions and potential tornado activity. At the very least those conditions don’t bode well for golf cart decorations, let alone everyone’s comfort and safety.

If the event proceeds, no refunds will be offered. If the event is canceled, refunds may be granted if specifically requested, but the cart entry fees are ultimately a donation to the VFW, so we’re hopeful you’ll join us in allowing the VFW to keep your donation.

We will see you Friday night for the light tour and HOPE to see you again Saturday night. But if not, we wish you a very Merry Christmas! Please check back here Saturday afternoon for official word on if it’s happening or not.
