TRIO Talent Search Fort Lewis College
ETS identifies and assists students from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
Educational Talent Search serves students in grades 7 through 12 at target schools throughout our community including Pagosa Springs, Ignacio, Durango, Mancos, and Cortez. In addition to counseling, participants receive information about college admissions requirements, scholarships and various student financial aid programs. ETS helps students from families where neither parent graduated from college to better understand their educational opportunities and options.
For any students / families interested in our program, make sure to utilize our online application! This is an easy way to make sure your student's application gets sent straight to our email and doesn't get lost in a backpack or somewhere at school.

We had a wonderful time at our 2022 College Camp. 32 students were able to collaborate with Fort Lewis professors and faculty from Business, Biology, Communications, Career Services, and Theatre. Students had the opportunity to practice interview skills while asking contacts from each department various questions and taking notes, which they then used to create interactive presentations that were shared with families at our Friday night BBQ. Thank you to all the families who attended and all the individuals who helped collaborate with us to make this event possible! It was a great way to kick off the new school year.
We now have an online permission form for students and families to utilize! You can fill out the permission form for any upcoming event that you would like to attend without worrying about remembering to bring a piece of paper back to your advisor. All responses get electronically submitted to our Talent Search office, and your advisors will confirm your event attendance when any online permission forms are received!

Last week TRIO Talent Search put on our annual Scholarship Extravaganza event on the Fort Lewis campus. Current seniors from all of our communities gathered to get essay feedback from professors, learn about the importance of scholarships, and get the experience of a mock interview with community volunteers. Thank you to all of the seniors who took the time to spend the day with TRIO, and to all of our volunteers who spent the day supporting our students!
This past week we took 23 freshmen on our overnight Fall College Tour! We visited Western Colorado University, Colorado Mesa University, and Western Community College. Students were able to see the campuses, learn about different programs and fields of study at each university, and get a feel for what college would look like at the different schools. There was also a night out at Bananas Fun Park in Grand Junction with laser tag, go karts, and lots of fun. Here are some photos of our adventures!
Due to some unexpected circumstances, (something we are all too familiar with these days), two of our upcoming event dates have been moved. Below is an updated list of the dates that TRIO Talent Search has going on over the course of the next month:
Tuesday 10/19: Mancos Middle School visiting FLC
Wednesday 10/20: PSHS Financial Aid Night
Thursday 10/28: Cortez Middle School visiting FLC
Friday 11/05: Scholarship Extravaganza for high school seniors at FLC
Tuesday 11/09: Pagosa Springs Middle School visiting FLC (previously 10/18)
Thursday 11/11: Ignacio Middle School visiting FLC (previously 10/21)
