A lot of happy tears were shed and heartwarming and encouraging stories were told. Jessika Buell, the Mayor of Durango, was our honored guest speaker for the evening. Thank you Jessika! Today marks the first time Durango has ever hosted a swearing-in ceremony for U.S. naturalization. 13 immigrants from four different countries became naturalized citizens at the Durango courthouse. They were celebrated by friends, family, and supporters. One of our own ESL students, Obdulia Fonseca, was among them! The League of Women Voters supplied the new citizens with voter registration material, and gifted each of them with an annual parks pass! It was a special day to celebrate a great achievement!
Our ESL and GED students rode the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad yesterday and had a blast! The views from the open air car were beautiful and it was fun to get out and stretch our legs at Cascade to eat lunch! The perfect field trip!
