The Department of Geosciences is dedicated to the advancement of the Earth Sciences through education, public outreach and scholarly activities. We offer degrees in Geology, Environmental Geology, and Teacher Education with an emphasis in Geology. In addition, we also offer a certificate Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This variety of subjects helps prepare students for a wide range of car
This Saturday, March 16, you and your families are cordially invited to the Science Open House event from 12:00-4:00 PM in the Chemistry, Berndt, and Sitter Family Hall buildings. Fort Lewis Faculty and students from Chemistry, Biology, Physics & Engineering, Geology, Psychology, Anthropology, and Exercise Science will be presenting walkthrough, interactive demonstrations of scientific ideas and tours of some of our on-campus labs and facilities. There will also be a demonstration-filled “Cold Temperature Show” in CH 130 at 12:00 and 3:00 .

DID YOU KNOW? The largest AQUAMARINE cluster ever found in North America is from Colorado! According to the Denver Post, "the specimen measures 37 by 25 inches, and includes more than 100 aquamarine crystals and other gems. It was discovered in 2004 near the summit of the state's 10th highest peak: Mount Antero in the Sawatch Range in central Colorado"

Rock-solid history lesson Nick Salter, a senior majoring in geosciences, identified and cataloged rocks during his internship at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, which had been collected by Olga Little in the late 19th century from the area mountains.
