Join us for another Solar Success Story!
Our next Solar Success Story comes from Epworth United Methodist Church in Durham where they embarked on a journey to install 219 solar panels on their church! These panels now generate renewable energy, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and significantly decreasing their electricity costs. Hey Epworth Family! Do you want to help support our youth group? Do you want to get to know them and fellowship with them? Provide a meal! We would love for you to talk to Pastor Eric and sign up to bring a meal for youth!
Here's your friendly reminder that we are doing a combined summer Sunday school class every week until our Kick Off in September. We would love to have you spend time in fellowship, learning, and discussion between services next Sunday!
There are two opportunities to see "Bad Faith" in the coming weeks. The first is with one of our partner churches, Mt. Level on August 3rd at 10:30 am. Epworth will also be hosting a showing on September 15th at 3pm! We hope you come to watch, learn, and discuss!
Today the youth met our new Associate Pastor, Eric; and he and the counselors taught them about sustainability. They discussed different types of sustainability that we do as a church and individuals, as well as how to increase our sustainability. They ended the lesson by creating grocery bags out of thrifted T-shirts to limit their use of single use plastic bags.

We have been challenged to have a plastic-free July! Here are six steps you can take on your plastic-free journey this month and in the coming months so we can work towards a plastic-free future and care for God's creation.
1. Join the Plastic Free July challenge, and follow Plastic Free July on Instagram for daily tips on plastic reduction.
2. The ReCollective, and Circular Triangle, Toward Zero Waste Check out other local groups with a focus on waste reduction like Mindful Merchant, and Part & Parcel, Fillaree
3. Shop at package-free stores like that could significantly reduce plastic litter rates in NC!
4. Reach out to your favorite local businesses and ask them to stop or reduce their use of disposable plastics.
5. Sign the Litter Reduction Act Petition that that blocks local municipalities from establishing ordinances to reduce single-use plastics!
6. Even better, reach out to your state representatives to express your disappointment over the recent passing of a provision in House Bill 259

This summer, our youth are doing "Service Sundays" where they learn about different areas of service the church does. This week they learned about food scarcity and our work with Urban Ministries. They formed three teams, went to a grocery store, and were were challenged to shop with $20 per team. They had so much fun and learned about important things like budgeting, food scarcity, WIC, and SNAP. All of the groceries were non-perishables that will be donated to urban ministries.
Please join us in welcoming Pastor Eric Prenshaw and his family at the ice cream social immediately following our 11 am. service.
Our United Women in Faith Chapter has organized our 2024 Christmas boxes project. Boxes and instructions for filling them are available on the table in the Farthex. Boxes need to be completed and returned to Epworth by July 21st! If you want to learn more about Project AGAPE Armenia click the link below!
