Spinal Wellness Tips

For a healthy spine, keep these tips in mind!

Standing -
If you know you will be standing for an extended period, make sure that you wear supportive shoes and make sure you know how to keep good posture. Good posture is the key to a healthy spine. Keep your chin up and your shoulders back. Keep both feet about shoulder¬-width apart.

Working at a Desk -
Make sure that you are getting up every 30 minutes to stretch, even if you just walk around for a few minutes. Next, be sure you are seated correctly. Make sure you have a chair that offers good lower back support. You also want your feet flat on the floor with your knees at a 90¬ degree angle. If you need a stool under your feet to do this, bring one to work. Your computer screen should be at eye¬-level so you are not looking down at it.

Lifting -
Lifting objects is one of the most common ways to injure yourself. Start by squatting down to the object with one foot slightly in front of the other. Keep your back straight, only bending at the knees and hips. Keep your head looking forward and lift the object by straightening your legs, still keeping your back straight. Hold the object close to your body. Never twist while picking something up. Only turn once you are fully upright. Keep the same idea in mind when you are putting the object back down.

Warming Up for Physical Activity -
If you know that you are going to be working or playing for a while, make sure that you are adequately warmed up. Even when only performing light activities, like gardening or pushing your child on a bike, it's easy to pull something if you don’t prepare your body.

Talking on the Phone -
If you're forced to use the phone for a long period of time, a speaker or a headset is a must. Do not cradle the phone between your neck and your shoulder as this could cause you to damage the muscles or vertebrae in that area.

Resting or Sleeping -
Straining your neck or back while you're sleeping is a very common occurrence. We often fall asleep in positions where we are not supported properly, or we fall asleep with our necks at an odd angle. Make sure your pillow supports your neck and head so that it lays neutral with the rest of your spine. Sleeping on your stomach is not recommended as it puts stress on your neck and your back.

Sleep & Chiropractic Care

Want to know one of the top issues we see in our chiropractic clinic? SLEEP ISSUES!

Quality sleep is an essential part of overall health (but you know that!) And the National Institutes of Health agrees... In fact, they report inadequate sleep can increase your risk for long-term health and cognitive problems.

Not getting enough sleep can impact your metabolism and your heart, respiratory and immune systems. If you struggle to get enough sleep consistently, try this:

Stick to a consistent sleep routine and schedule

Create your hibernation station with white noise, total darkness, and a temp around 68

Wear blue light blockers, turn screens to dark mode, and put screens away by 8 pm

Get adjusted regularly

Our patients have reported significant improvement in their sleep quality after receiving consistent care. And, according to an article published in the journal Spine, 40% of the approximately 34,500 chiropractic patients surveyed reported better sleep after treatment.

Are you on the schedule? Call 651-905-8272 and we will get you sleeping better in no time.

Shoulder pain can disrupt the quality of your daily life. This is especially true if you are experiencing a dull ache, tingling sensation, or sharp pain that radiates down your arm. Shoulder pain is common. Chiropractic treatment will help ease the discomfort and reduce the pain.

Causes of Shoulder Pain -
The joints around your shoulders are quite complex. Shoulder pain is a result of a variety of causes.

Here are the most common causes of shoulder pain:

Pinched nerve: Mechanical issues with your shoulder joint may result in impinged or pinched nerves. This pressure on either the smaller nerves or the main branching nerve can cause numbness, pain, and tingling in your shoulder, arms and hands.

Frozen shoulder: A frozen shoulder is also called adhesive capsulitis. It is a condition you may develop when the connective tissue of the shoulder thickens and tightens around the joint of the shoulder. A frozen shoulder is common after suffering an injury that restricts the movement of the shoulders for some time.

Dislocated shoulder: Dislocated shoulder is an injury common in sports. When it happens, the humerus pops away from the glenoid cavity. There is an initial pain when this happens. The nerves can become numb and are affected as well. There is the risk of repeated dislocation for a shoulder that dislocates once.

Rotator cuff injury: This is one of the most common types of shoulder pain. This injury can be a result of the slow deterioration of the muscles. It can also happen due to sudden trauma.

Arthritis: Arthritis can be a wear and tear condition such as osteoarthritis. It may also be related to rheumatoid, an autoimmune disorder. Regardless of the cause of your arthritis, it may cause pain and inflammation in your shoulders. Arthritis can restrict the range of movement of your shoulders.

Shoulder bursitis: You may develop shoulder bursitis when the fluid-filled capsule of your shoulder becomes inflamed or irritated. Shoulder bursitis frequently occurs where the glenoid cavity connects with the humerus. This condition can cause pain to the extent that it becomes nearly impossible for you to move your shoulders.

Tendonitis: Tendonitis in the shoulders is a type of irritation and inflammation in either the rotator cuff or bicep tendons. It is often experienced by people who perform repetitive movements with their shoulders. Tendon injuries can be very painful and are also slow in healing.

Shoulder pain can cause discomfort. A chiropractor will help you treat the cause of your shoulder pain, which, in turn, leads to a significant reduction in pain.

Is Your Check Engine Light On?
When was the last time you checked in on your body to see what it was telling you?
Although your body doesn’t have a “check engine light” (would be super cool if it did) think of symptoms as your "check engine light".
Stress & Overwhelm
Headaches
Fatigue & Poor Sleep
Pain & Tightness
Sick & Rundown
Brain Fog
These are all signs that your body is telling you something is off. A lot of people identify these symptoms as just being normal; but there can be an underlying issue.
What can solve that?
➡ An Adjustment!

What a pain!

If you live with chronic headaches, keep reading because this post could be life-changing!

Headaches are triggered by a variety of things, including:
Stress
Poor posture
Poor sleep habits
Excessive screen time
Light, noise, and other environmental factors
Certain foods
Prior whiplash injuries
Dehydration

But just because headaches are common doesn’t mean you should live with them!

An adjustment can not only help with current chronic headaches but also reduce future headaches as well. How? Adjustments can target the misaligned vertebrae that increase stress in your nervous system and trigger headaches.

And remember: your lifestyle matters. Take time to think about your headache triggers and make simple changes to your daily routine to keep them at bay.
