Labor Day weekend: the unofficial last hoorah of summer and all of the joys, trials and tribulations that come with the spring and summer planting season.

We enter the time of year when we can take pause to look around at the results of our efforts these past few months; where we either continue to plant in our gardens or plan for next year.

Especially during these next few final weeks of summer, now’s a great time to plant most perennials, trees, and shrubs in ground. Cooler temperatures mean that plants and soil don’t dry out as quickly, there’s generally less risk of insect or fungal issues this time of year, and we give plant roots time to acclimate - which they do even stronger than they would in Spring - because soil in the Fall is warmer, coming out of Summer.

That’s why when you visit Wildwood, we’re still bringing in fresh plant material and are abundant with the quality stock you expect from us.

Things to Remember in September at Wildwood

Some tips for Fall containers that stand out from the rest:

- Add texture and bold color with coleus or dark purple sweet potato vine
- Include some shimmer by planting silvers into your combination - sage, artemisia (silver mound), brunnera (Siberian bugloss), Silver Falls dichondra, etc.
- Bring in those fall colors with bright reds, golden yellows, or orange hues.
