First day of Upward Bound MSU Fall semester! Great to see our scholars working so hard!
Please consider donating to help the Upward Bound program at University of Houston-Downtown students and their families. They have been horribly affected by the hurricane and floods and are in need of clothing and school supplies. This is open to our entire community (UB students have the potential to receive community service credit).

Upward Bound MSU Community - we hope you are all aware that the former announcement of the closing of our Upward Bound program is no longer true! Michigan State University and many incredible community members stepped forward to ensure that our program will continue! While a reduction in services is necessary based on current funding, we are excited to be planning our annual summer programming for our 102 students (which will include 4 weeks of academic courses, a week-long MSU residential stay, and our annual study trip). The summer session will begin July 10th. Thank you to everyone who made a phone call, sent a message, or helped save our program in any way. We can officially say 51 years and counting!
On Sunday, April 30th, the students of MSU Upward Bound had the opportunity to visit the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. These beautiful museums specialize in retelling the stories of two important groups of people who suffered great loss and pain. It was a heavy day filled with important lessons regarding diversity and how to combat racial and ethnic discrimination. Although the day was filled with some hard to accept material, students enjoyed learning about important world history. Lessons surrounding how to combat racial and ethnic discrimination will hopefully stick with these students as they approach their adult lives. With a trip to Greenfield Village approaching fast, MSU Upward Bound is continuing to open the history books for their students. By learning about what happened in the past, students can utilize these lessons to help positively shape their own futures.
Congratulations to all of our seniors! A big thank you to everyone who attended the senior recognition ceremony, and also to those who have supported the Upward Bound students throughout their endeavors. It was a heartwarming and joyful night.
