Black Families of Children with Autism: Equity and Access to Care Study

The goal of this study is to inform culturally responsive treatments for Black families of children autism and learn more about Black caregiver experiences seeking treatment and diagnostic services for their child.

You are eligible to participate in this study if you are a Black caregiver of a child (ages 0 –21 years) who has been diagnosed with autism and who has received treatment services. Parents must be 18 years of age or older to participate. You will receive a $75 gift card following the completion of the survey. Additionally, if you elect to participate and are selected for a follow-up interview, you can earn a $50 gift card.

Join the Rhode Island Neurobehavioral Observation Study (RhINOS)!

The goal of this study is to learn about how behaviors observed in newborns relate to meeting developmental milestones during the first years of life.

You can participate if you are soon becoming a parent to an infant born at Women & Infants Hospital, and someone in your immediate family has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (Autism, ASD, Aspergers, PDD-NOS), or if there is concern that a family member might have an ASD.

As a reminder, the show is on display through September at the Museum of Work and Culture Preservation Foundation in Woonsocket!

Exhibit Showcases Art by People with Autism | Hassenfeld | Brown University Twenty-five-year-old Connor Thompson, an amateur photographer, is inspired by colors, designs and textures. He particularly enjoys using the macro setting on his digital camera to take close-up photos of nature: flowers and frogs, insects, blue herons and other birds native to Cape Cod.

Did you know that the Museum of Work and Culture Preservation Foundation is open and you can see the "Through Our Eyes" exhibit? Now through the end of September!

Artist Andrew Novis, whose works this year include "Blue Kitten with a Ball" and "Brown Tabby on a Branch", recently visited the Museum: "Erika and I spent a good three hours at the museum, seeing the RI-CART show, and wandering around the exhibit halls, taking in the sights. It was nice to have the place to ourselves."

RI-CART's Dr. Brian Kavanaugh is testing whether a new type of brain stimulation can improve attentional skills or "working memory" in teenagers with ADHD. He is recruiting 13-17 year old teenagers who have ADHD (either with or without Autism) to join him in this new study. Participants will be compensated for study participation. We are excited to share that the Museum of Work and Culture Preservation Foundation is continuing to offer Therapeutic Tuesdays this summer! 🎹🎨

The program will provide free access to therapist-led art and music activities designed to help children and teens with sensory sensitivities engage creatively with the MoWC’s themes.

The events will be streamed live on the Museum’s page, where participants will be able to engage live with the therapists with comments and questions. The broadcast will then be recorded and made available for those unable to attend the live session.

Families who register in advance will have the opportunity to pick up activity materials curbside at the Museum the week before the program. Those wishing to register for
free activity materials can register by emailing [email protected].
