🎼The wonderful experience of Beethoven & Brahms from April 28, 2024.
It was a true joy to play with so many wonderful people for our recent concert: with our founding conductor and current Interim Music Director John Eells leading us again for Beethoven's iconic Symphony no. 5; Joseph J. Amante conducting us through Brahms' Nanie, Op. 82; and collaborating with Coro Amante and CCRI Choirs for two gorgeous pieces.
It was an afternoon full of music — thank you to everyone who attended!
We'll be performing our season finale concert in Warwick on Sunday, June 9 at 3pm — find all the details on our website: https://www.nabsco.org/events/season-finale-concert-2024
Huge thank you to John Clarke for being our photographer for this concert!
Only TWO DAYS until our April 28th concert!
Nanie is a beautiful lamentation by Brahms set to the poem of the same name by Friedrich Schiller, telling the story through a piece for chorus and orchestra (we’ve even got a harpist for the occasion!)
The piece is a 15 minute abstract depiction of the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, Aphrodite and Adonis, and Thetis and Achilles — all stories describing the very human experience of beauty, death, and mourning.
Join us at auditorium, 3pm, this Sunday to hear it live! Tickets are pay-what-you-think-is-fair.
Hear a quick message from John Eells, our interim music director who also founded NaBSCO many years ago!
Join us on Sunday, April 28, at 3pm for our Spring Concert at the East Providence High School auditorium. Tickets at the link in our bio, or at the door!

Viola jokes? Not from us, or this gorgeous theme from Beethoven’s fifth symphony, mvmt II.
No jokes from us on April 1, either, which marks — a day of giving to Rhode Island nonprofit organizations. This year, 401Gives begins at 6am on Monday, April 1, and ends at 6pm on Tuesday, April 2.
We encourage you to donate to any nonprofit you feel passionate about, be it NaBSCO, another arts organization, or any other group — we’re all working hard to bring good things to our state!
And the pictures are in from our recent concert on March 3! It was such a fun program to play, made better by wonderful people.
From the rehearsal process to the performance, it was a joy to work with Sophia Szokolay. Thank you, Sophia, for bringing your beautiful take on the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.
Another thank you to everyone who attended to support and enjoy live classical music, we couldn't do this without you!
We also bid farewell to Music Director Kristo Kondakci. The orchestra has enjoyed many musical memories together with him, including this last concert together. We are grateful for his time with the orchestra over the past few years. NaBSCO wishes Kristo the best, and we look forward to seeing (and hearing) where he goes in the future!
We don't take a break during our season, as we're currently preparing for our next concert — mark your calendars for Sunday, April 28, and another wonderful program of Brahms and Beethoven.

You can learn more through the link above or on our website at nabsco.org.

Why support NaBSCO? NaBSCO is composed of dedicated musicians from almost every town and city in RI brought together by a shared love of classical music. Over the past several concert seasons, our all-volunteer orchestra has been hard at work realizing our mission of sharing live classical music with our communities at little or no cost, promoting lifelong music education, and enriching the cultural life of our region.
~~
Over the past few years we have:
Moved to a pay-what-you-think-is-fair ticket model;
Showcased instruments and music outside of the “traditional” classical canon;
Supported contemporary, living composers and debuted new music reflective of the rich musical heritages all around us;
Collaborated with fellow, local arts and music organizations
~~
With your support, NaBSCO can continue meeting our broader mission of classical-music-for-all. Thank you!!
