Wearing patriotic colors, the East Quogue Elementary School community gathered in the front of the school to pay tribute to the stars and stripes on Flag Day, held on June 14. There were patriotic songs and speeches by select students as veterans and active military personnel took part in the school’s annual tradition.
Flag Day commemorates President Woodrow Wilson’s marking June 14 as Flag Day with a decree signed in 1916, thus creating an official symbol of freedom.

The East Quogue School District is pleased to announce that student Owen Stone is a sixth grade winner in the prestigious Brookhaven National Laboratory Elementary Science Fair. Owen’s winning project was titled, “Can common foods help grow potatoes?”
Projects submitted to the elementary science fair are judged by a rubric, which considers the originality of a question, the hypothesis and definition of the problem, the ability to follow the scientific method or engineering design process, the project’s investigation trials, data collection and analysis and the conclusion. The project must also raise a new hypothesis or question and have real-world implications.
As a winner, Owen has also been invited to attend the Suffolk County Legislature Meeting, to be held in Riverhead on June 25.
The district congratulates Owen on this outstanding accomplishment.

East Quogue Community,

I hope all is well. I am excited to share exciting news regarding our districts efforts to support our students’ health and overall well-being.

The New York State enacted budget for State Fiscal Year of 2022-2023 provided $100 million over a two-year period to establish the 2023-2025 New York State Recover from COVID School Programs Grants (RECOV). As part of this initiative, our district applied for two grants, one addressing Learning Loss and another focusing on Mental Health.

On Friday, May 10th, we were notified that our district has been awarded the Mental Health Grant, totaling $663,180 over two years. We will receive half of the funds each year, allowing us to significantly enhance the support and opportunities available to our students.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of several key individuals. A special thank you to Dr. Porter and Mrs. Brady, who were instrumental in completing and securing this grant for our district. In addition, we extend our gratitude to Mrs. Culhane, Mrs. Diveris, and Mrs. Laube for their invaluable contributions throughout the grant process.

The grant funds will be allocated directly to benefit our students and school community in the following areas:

Therapy Dog (Potentially starting in school every day in January 2025)
WILD Cat’s-(Connections Adventure Team) Summer Camp & Field Trips
Behavior Analysis Parent Workshops
Teacher Professional Development
Wellness Club
Chromebooks with Licenses-100
Club Supplies
4 MacBooks
Club Coordinators
Social/Emotional Books
Translation Phone Services
Salary for our social worker and part of psychologist

We are excited about the positive impact these initiatives will have on our students’ mental health and overall well-being. Thank you to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in securing this grant for their ongoing commitment to our students’ success.

Hopefully we will see you tomorrow at Mr. Long’s 5K Race.

Regards,

Michael Miller
