Two years. Two ACL surgeries. First father, then son. For Michael and Cole Sutherland, getting back on their bikes has been quite the ride.

“TCO’s Dr. TJ Ridley has been taking great care of our family.

When I had an accident racing my dirt bike, I broke my tibia plateau and tore my ACL. I had a great outcome after surgery and physical therapy and was back riding by August of 2022. However, just seven months later, my son tore his ACL while practicing for the upcoming motocross season.

Thanks to my great experience with Dr. Ridley, I knew exactly where to bring Cole. Once again, the results were outstanding, and Cole came back from injury better than ever. In fact, he won the first race he competed in after being cleared!

It’s been amazing coaching Cole and watching him achieve so much success. I’m thankful to TCO and Dr. Ridley for getting us back on the track.”

A small gesture of kindness by Rad Tech Alicia Johnson made a huge impact on a patient.

“Alicia was assisting me with a patient who came in with a walker. The patient was commenting to us about her squeaky wheels and joking about how she couldn't sneak up on anyone. She also mentioned that at a previous appointment, at a different facility, the staff tried to find WD40 to stop the wheel from squeaking.

As soon as that was said, Alicia knew we had some in the X-ray department and found it. After finishing the patient’s X-rays, Alicia came in and sprayed the walker’s wheels, and the patient was ecstatic to have a quiet walker!”

*Every month we recognize a TCO team member who was nominated for making a difference in someone’s life. As a small token of thanks, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward Fine Art to create a one-of-a-kind art piece featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.

Working as a physical therapist assistant for 30 years took a toll on Cheryl’s left shoulder. After working through the pain for many years, she decided to turn to TCO for help.

“In 2017, I had a decompression done. The surgery was successful for a couple of years, but by 2020, my shoulder pain was getting worse. I was unable to sleep on my left side. When I elevated my arm, the humerus would slip out of the socket. I tried several rounds of cortisone but eventually that stopped helping. It was time to get my shoulder replaced.

At my first appointment with TCO’s Dr. Andrew Schmiesing, I was immediately assured I was in good hands and scheduled my surgery.

I had a quick recovery, the pain was well controlled, and when I got the okay to ditch the sling, I went to work. Now I can lift up to 20 pounds and use my arm for gardening and lawn maintenance. My left arm has become my strong arm.

I am so thankful I finally did this. Dr. Schmiesing will be seeing more of me as my body is very arthritic.”

Helping Dakotah stay race-ready is an honor! We're inspired by her incredible performance and the way she always seems to defy the odds.

A pause for reflection after an amazing showing at the Paris Games!

and Twin Cities Orthopedics athlete Dakotah Lindwurm made all of Minnesota proud as she finished the highest of any American in the marathon.

We wanted to share some of Dakotah’s powerful and inspirational thoughts on the race.

“Going into the marathon, I knew on paper I shouldn’t place in the top half of the field. I’ve never been one to set a limit on myself, and I certainly wasn’t going to start at the Olympics.

I’ve had a million questions and comments about taking the lead out near Versailles. Do I regret it? Was I just trying to get TV time? Was I trying to break away from the field? The answer? No, I was just trying to keep a constant pace. As I turned the corner in the front, I swear I heard the entire state of Minnesota scream.

Sooner or later, they surged and caught me. My hope was I’d reconnect on the hill, but I never reconnected at all. To say that hill before 30K was torture is an understatement. I almost put my hands on my quads and walked up, but I thought of all the hours I spent in the gym after tough workouts and how many yards I pulled a sled that was double my weight to prepare for this exact moment.

I could hear my strength coach Jimmy Warmuth yell, “HIT. HIT. HIT. HIT.” in rhythm commanding my knee drive and foot strike. It was just like being at Training HAUS. Before I knew it, I looked up and I was catching carnage from the lead group and was cresting the hill.

To get to this level takes some inability to ever be satisfied. 12th at the Olympics is amazing. Top 10 would have been epic. If I had won gold, I would have wished I won by a bigger margin. That’s the beauty of this sport, we’re always striving for more.”
