just passed in the house of representatives! We have some more steps for the final victory: This proposal is sent to the Senate and it is where we have to make the strongest pressure and then if it passes in the Senate, it goes to the president's desk. Let's continue with the effort that has brought us to this point!
"Today, in a historic vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Dream and Promise Act of 2019, H.R. 6, which would provide a roadmap to citizenship for 2.5 million Dreamers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) & Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders. Additionally, the Dream and Promise Act contains critical higher education provisions, including access to federal financial aid for beneficiaries.
We urge the Senate to move forward on a bipartisan basis and pass similar legislation protecting these populations." -LUPE

BREAKING: A bipartisan group of former Secretaries of the Department of Homeland Security urge lawmakers to protect Dreamers by January 19, the last day Congress can act without tens of thousands of Dreamers getting fired from their jobs and risking deportation.
In a letter to congressional leadership, Secretaries Michael Chertoff, Janet Napolitano, and Jeh Johnson write of their strong support of legislation to protect Dreamers, and that "to ensure a successful implementation of DACA legislation, Congress should pass bipartisan legislation in the next few weeks to allow these young people to continue to fully contribute to this country."

Sen. Roy Blunt open to granting citizenship to DREAMers Sen. Roy Blunt said Tuesday he could support a path to citizenship for DREAMers, the undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
Yazael is undocumented, a DACA beneficiary, and a full-time UT Austin student. He was born in Mexico but immigrated to Austin, TX with his mother at the age of 4 in order to receive a pacemaker surgery that helps keep his heart beating to this day. He has since grown up here in the place he calls home for the past 14 years.
There were many obstacles since the minute his family arrived to the U.S., but they did everything they had to in order to adapt to a whole new environment and bridge the language gaps. Upon the moment DACA was an option, he has maintained a part time job in order to keep providing support to his family of three and doing his best to be a good role model in the eyes of his little sister.
A clean Dream Act is essential because it’s something that all undocumented youth who’ve grown up and know this country as their own simply deserve because they are human and this is their home. While the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program gave people like Yazael two years of safety and the ability to work, it was easily taken away by the President. Families live in constant fear of deportation or new laws that try to criminalize their immigration status. To Yazael, the fight for a clean Dream Act isn’t even about economics, but about morals, and the majority of the American public want it passed. A clean Dream Act needs to happen so that people like Yazael can continue living in this country with safety.
My name is Estefanía, I am 22 years old and I am a DACAmented college student and part-time worker. Tlalpan, Mexico City is where I was born and the place I will forever call home. Austin, Texas is my current second home- this is where I grew up, where I established my appreciation for English captions, where I had my first slobbery teen kiss, where I stumbled upon hardships, where I learned how to overcome with genuine love and human connection, and where I fell in love with coffee in the mornings.
I come from a mixed status family, my baby sister is a citizen and my parents and I are undocumented. My parents to immigrated to the U.S. seeking an opportunity to live in safety and to flourish. I consider my parents revolutionaries for defying an oppressive government all while having to re-establish their roots in a foreign country.
My greatest obstacle with my status is knowing that it continues to limit my family and witnessing that twice as much under the current presidency. I am privileged to be protected from deportation and able to work under the now-terminated Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, however my parents do not have the same protection to go about their lives just as freely. I’ve seen the emotional toll it has taken on both of my parents. I have seen the financial strain it caused on my mother when we went through our own tough times. Coming from undocu-immigrant parents means knowing their struggles, what they’ve had to leave behind and internalizing those struggles within you. It means pushing yourself to make sure that those struggles never go in vain.
DACA allowed me to have an easier time buying my own textbooks, paying for my tuition and applying for jobs that I may have not experienced otherwise. Overall, it has given me a financial platform to support myself and someday be able to support my sister and parents. I currently study in the American Sign Language interpreting program at ACC.
So why a clean Dream Act? Because creating a grand opportunity for undocumented youth all while putting our parents, family members, and friends in jeopardy with more deportations would be betrayal full of senselessness political greed. It would feel like a huge slap in the face to the people that have built this economy, who brought the rich culture and foods, and who shed light on what it means to live in a country with opportunities. We need a clean Dream Act because our parents, our families, our community members did not rip themselves apart from their land to once again be torn away from a life and home they’ve built with such deep pain and bravery.
