Students Lina Ortiz-Vera and Sunshine Saxton, along with associate professor Jenny Saxton-Rodriguez researched and constructed a soldadera garment for National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. The team researched using periodicals from Mexico, Spain and the United States to reconstruct garments depicted in a photo taken before the Battle of Ciudad Juarez in 1911. The garment was built for “Soldaderas to Amazonas: Escaramuzas Charras” which will run until the end of the year.

Congratulations to THTF students Karina Molina and Maximilian Cano on their acceptance into USITT’s stage Management Mentor Program. They went to Seattle WA, where they took part in their first United States Institute for Theatre Technology conference. While there, they worked alongside mentor stage managers to run the event programming and took classes and workshops. They also met up with
Broadway Green Alliance and UTRGV alumni working in the theater industry as well as a few former UTRGV faculty and staff. (Shoutout to Liz Polley and Tom Grabowski!)

University Productions
Television and film are photographed theatre, and they all share the same magic that can captivate, enthrall, and enlighten any audience anywhere in the world at any time. At most universities, the art, theory and practice of these three disciplines are taught separately in different departments, but ours is one of the few unified programs in the entire nation to offer comprehensive instruction in theatre both on stage an in all visual mediums.
Whether a student’s career goals focus on acting, direction, writing, design, costuming, cinematography, editing, or any and all aspects of basic production, our program provides the facilities, faculty, and curriculum. With a black box stage, a thrust theatre stage, two video stages, post production facilities, extensive costume and scenic shops, state of the art camera, editing, and lighting equipment, and a faculty comprised of experienced professionals all actively pursuing their respective crafts, the theatre, television, film department at UTRGV offers every student a total education in all three disciplines. Our experienced faculty can not only provide our students instruction and knowledge but critical advice and support in pursuing their goals in a professional context.
We are one of the few departments in the country dedicated to offering students the opportunity to work on a feature film as part of our curriculum, providing invaluable experience in working an extended schedule with all its practical, thematic and professional challenges and advantages.
