We bought a house!

The home buying process had scared me off for many years now but teaming up with the one and only / made it a dare I say enjoyable process.

Rachel went above and beyond and even had this wonderful illustration commissioned by .projects for us 😀🏡

Happy New Year!

After a year of roasting coffee for you fine folks I've decided to close up shop. I've met so many awesome people and learned a ton, but the business has run its course and other aspects of life are taking priority.

I can't thank you all enough for all the support. Y'all drank 650 pounds of coffee, planting 1,300 trees, offsetting 40,300 lbs of Co2 this year and future years.

To get your local coffee fix I recommend which supports female farmers and has some delicious single-origin beans.

I'll see you at the coffee shop ☕️

Happy Holidays from Twin Trees,

The air is chill and my hibernation instincts are taking over. Getting out of a warm bed this time of year can feel like a herculean effort. Luckily for you I'm here to help with a special Holiday Blend. This year's blend is made with beans from Kenya and Colombia. Both were chosen due to their high sweetness rating. The Colombia provides a nice bittersweet base while the Kenya adds dark fruit notes on top. This dark robust roast is sure to entice you from your slumber.

Order at shop.twintrees.coffee 🌲 🎄 ☕️

Happy Friday all,

I've got a new Decaf Moka Java blend which I'm roasting up either light or dark. You get to decide! It is a combo of two Sumatra beans and a Ethiopian Dry Process. Prefer the sweet low earthy tones of Sumatra? Go dark. Lean towards the fragrant aromatic side of things? Try light.

On a slightly down note I won't be selling at the El Cerrito Farmers Market anymore. Sales there have been steadily declining and interestingly bag sales dipped even more once I started selling hot coffee. 🤷‍♂️ Going forward I'm going to stick to selling from my online shop. Also, I'm not gonna lie, sleeping in on Saturday mornings is gonna be 👌

Speaking of my online shop, I'm carrying Hario brewing gear there now! Drippers, filters, scales and the like. I've been using Hario gear for over a decade now. I love their focus on design and quality. Please DM me if you have any questions about the equipment.

Have a great weekend 😎

9/9/20 left a visual impact on me. So much so that it drove me to start a fundraiser that turned into this coffee biz.

Today reminds me of that purpose to make a dent in the worst impacts of climate change. So far that dent is at 35,340 lbs co2 offset annually or roughly 1,140 trees planted.

It isn’t a huge dent but it is measurable and wouldn’t have been there otherwise.

Hope you all find your dent and keep on pressing it.

📅 Mark your calendars for Sat 8/28 for a delicious pie and coffee combo 🥧☕️
10am - 1pm
I’ll be at "A Pie in the Sky" pop-up brewing pour-overs and selling freshly roasted beans.

I’m roasting up an exclusive special batch to pair with her Peaches n’ Cream pie I’m calling El Pino con Pastel. This single origin El Salvador bean was grown in the shade of pine trees and features a delicious creamy nutty flavor.

Check out the website (https://www.apieinthesky.com/pie-popup) for pie and roasted bean pre-orders, otherwise come on thru for a hot cup of joe.

Hope to see you on Sat 🌲🌲☕️
~Phil

p.s. I’ll have free coffee samples too so you can try before you buy.

Happy Summer Friday,

We did it! Over 1,000 trees planted 🌲🌲☕️ Thanks to you savvy coffee drinkers we are offsetting 31,620 pounds of co2 PER year 👏👏👏

Since I wasn't at the market last Sat I've got some news to catch you up on. I filmed another video with my brother-in-law Bobby over on the bluffs above Stinson Beach (swipe to see). He does videography and photography work so check out BK Productions () if you are in need of some primo content.

What was I doing last Sat? Well I officiated a family wedding. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Galat! 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ Did I drink the crappy hotel room coffee you wonder? Heck no I didn't 🤠 I travel with a V60 pour-over setup these days (swipe to see). Our hotel room basically became a coffee pop-up 😂

Hope to see you at the market tomorrow 👋

Happy Friday,

Hope you had a marvelous long holiday weekend. I was camping with family up at Salt Point State Park. The coast was rugged, it was wonderfully foggy but nice and cozy by the camp fire.

In coffee news, I have a new light roast, Gitesi 🇷🇼 Rwanda which is complex and delicate with brisk tea-like flavors. The bean species is Arabica and the cultivar is Bourbon (pronounced boar-bone, sorry no whiskey for you 🥃). It especially shines when brewed as a pour-over.

Have a great weekend 😎

It’s a sell out! First time I’m all out of beans at the market 😀 Thanks to all who came out and special thanks to for spotlighting me in their newsletter this week

I’ll be sure to roast more next week 🌲🌲☕️

Special thanks to my brother in law for helping me out with the booth this Sat

There’s a new bean in town, all the way from Mexico 🇲🇽

Cerro Brujo is what I’m calling it cause it is grown on the slopes of this mountain. Name roughly translates to “sorcerous mountain” 🧙‍♀️ ⛰

This is my new med roast which will replace Mr Vagnes’s 🇧🇷 Brazil

Super stoked to announce Twin Trees will be doing local deliveries by bicycle!

Schedule will be to roast Wed/Thurs with deliveries on Fridays. So this is a preorder kinda thing.

Check out shop.twintrees.coffee for more info

Make sure to use the promo code LOCALBETA to save the $3 delivery fee. Will keep that up for a couple weeks until I get the kinks worked out 😎

Greetings,

I'm back from camping in the eastern sierras and my roaster is back on the job 😀

Pic is from OH Ridge campground right next to June lake. It is truly heavenly up in the mountains right now so I suggest you take that trip and find some fresh pine trees to make friends with. They really are the nicest people. Great listeners 🌲🌲😀

Maybe swing by the El Cerrito Farmer's market tomorrow and grab some beans for the road.

Rocking my tee this fine Sat morning 🌞

I’ll be at the Farmers Market shortly, so come on by for some damn fresh coffee beans 😀

Happy Friday,

I finally made it out to Black Star Pirate BBQ today for lunch and it was a sight to behold. I can wholeheartedly recommend the spare ribs and portobello mushrooms over cheesy grits (see pic above). Drive slow like a pro when you head out there and watch out for bicyclists.

This week I watched the new Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir on PBS which was fantastic. Like many I’m sure, I knew her as the author of The Joy Luck Club. The episode is both personal and intimate as it records accounts of her family life and what it is like to have the weight of success from her immensely successful debut novel. Check it out.

In coffee news I’ll be at the El Cerrito Farmer’s Market per usual tomorrow, 9AM - 1PM. Current forecast is a high of 84º in El Cerrito, so it might be time to put on the short pants (as my dad likes to call them).

Thanks to for the shoutout on The SF Minute. It’s a great interview with Sequoia and The Early Bird about their radio show, Roll Over Easy.

Tree Update: 790 trees and counting!
24,490 lbs Co2 offset

Let’s keep drinking coffee & planting trees 🌲🌲☕️

He’s back! And with 2 new coffee beans :)

No I’m not talking about Voldemort, but yes I’m talking about myself in the third person 😉

I wasn’t at the Market last week, but boy did I have a busy week. Earth Day 2021 was one for the ages. I biked all around SF bringing hot coffee to the people if they donated to Carbonfund.org i.e. planting trees (pic above is my rig set up at South Park in SoMa). I was able to raise about $300! Kudos to San Franciscans for buying coffee from a random guy on a bike in a park, 😜

I was out in the elements all day and Mother Nature wasn’t holding back. I counted maybe 5 mins of sunshine all day. I had a very interesting conversation about the weather with someone who was homeless, but that’s a story for another email.

The best parts of the day were easily the top and bottom. I kicked things off being interviewed by Sequoia and the EarlyBird on Roll Over Easy (a community radio show on BFF.fm). Take a listen for a really fun conversation between some coffee lovers (click the dots & jump to 45’:30” for my interview)

https://bff.fm/broadcasts/26656

I finished the day off at a plant swap in Golden Gate Park (thanks for the invite Early Bird 😀) and met some really cool people, brewed decaf for everyone, and watched some fire fighters carry heavy hoses around for an exercise drill. We cheered them on and it was awesome.

In other news, I’ve got two, count em, two new coffee beans for sale at the El Cerrito Farmer’s Market tomorrow morning ☕️

Med Roast: Mr. Vagne’s 🇧🇷 Brazil
Dark Roast: Flores 🏝 Indonesia

Hope to see you at the Market tomorrow 👋

Happy Earth Week 🌍,

I'm taking this Sat 4/24 off from the Farmer's Market for Earth Week. If you need fresh beans ASAP check out another small local east-bay roaster, https://www.sweltercoffee.com/

Here's what I'm doing for Earth Week:

Thurs 4/22 🌍 Day: 8:15 AM (ish) brief radio interview on Roll Over Easy broadcast from the Ferry Building in SF!

Tune-in on https://bff.fm/ around 8 AM

For the rest of Thurs I'll be cruising around SF with my bicycle hot coffee rig (prototype image below) bringing the coffee to the people. I'll be doing a fundraiser similar to my December one.

You donate $10 - 25 (you choose amount) to plant trees, I bike to you (perhaps at a local park) and brew you a hot cup of Twin Trees coffee🌲🌲☕️ (AeroPress)

Tomorrow, DM me and let's plant some trees 😀

Fri 4/23: Not sure. If I'm not too tired I might cruise around the East Bay and bring more coffee to more people 🚲

Sat 4/24 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Participate in El Cerrito Central Park clean-up

Come join me if you don't already have Sat plans! There is more info on my PSAs web-page, but you do need to RSVP with the city ahead of time.
