Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, Border Patrol, Desert Haven Fire Rescue along with Texas Rescue Patrol and Dell Valley EMS responded to a single vehicle tractor trailer roll-over on State Highway 62-180 at mile marker 51. Sadly, EMS crews found that the driver had already succumbed to his injuries. A large fuel spill prompted a Mutual Aid request for a specialized Hazard-Materials Response team from Montana Vista Fire Rescue and El Paso Fire Department. It will be some time before clean-up crews complete all clean-up efforts, so please slow down and use caution when approaching the scene. We want to thank all of our Public Safety partners who responded, including TXDOT, Apache Barricades, and the Wrecker Services.

We want to thank Joe Reeder and his incredible family at American Eagle Paintball Inc. for their continued support of our organization and allowing our public safety officials to use their parking lot as a staging area for Emergency Services during large operations at Red Sands.

This year's 4th of July saw a decrease in call volume compared to the previous year. Over the past two years, call volumes have steadily declined due to the increased presence of law enforcement. Despite this decrease, we encountered a tragic incident last night that required our team to respond to a gunshot victim. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and family. Our team worked closely with local authorities, including law enforcement, fire, and EMS services, all of whom responded swiftly. This rapid response highlights the effective collaboration and communication among all agencies involved.

Red Sands is not a managed off-road venue. While true off-road enthusiasts adhere to safe riding practices, clean up after themselves, and strive to preserve the area, there are unfortunately others who visit Red Sands primarily to party. These individuals often leave behind trash and engage in altercations that can lead to tragic incidents. Parents are strongly advised not to allow their teenagers to visit Red Sands without adult supervision, especially on Sunday nights.

We are a volunteer fire department and ambulance service operating in Hudspeth County, with a volunteer rescue team that assists wherever needed, including in El Paso County. However, we do not function as a security force nor manage the Red Sands area. Our role is to assist local authorities during search and rescue operations.

We extend our gratitude to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, El Paso County Constables Office, Montana Vista Fire Rescue, ESD 2 Fire Marshal’s Office, DPS, State Parks and Wildlife Police, Life Ambulance, EMS Training Plus (EOTP911.com), and all of our Texas Rescue Patrol and Desert Haven Fire and EMS volunteers for their outstanding work last night. The Fourth of July is one of the most challenging days of the year for our organization. Our volunteers face numerous hazards while operating in this area, yet they continue to serve with extraordinary dedication. Last night, our team responded to calls in both Hudspeth County and El Paso County simultaneously, and we are immensely grateful for their commitment and service to our community.

Update: 3:00pm 07/05/24 investigators have cleared the scene and are no longer in the area. Thank you for your cooperation.

Earlier post: Authorities are investigating a significant incident at Red Sands. Please stay clear of the area while authorities conduct their investigation. For further information please contact El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Texas Rescue Patrol reminds community of Fourth of July safety at Red Sands EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- It's a Fourth of July tradition for many El Pasoans to celebrate at Red Sands, in El Paso County's far eastside. ⚠️COMMUNITY UPDATE ON DESERT HAVEN FIRE & EMS ⚠️⚠️👇
———————————————————

TEXAS RESCUE PATROL has been providing 911 emergency medical services to the northwest district of HUDSPETH COUNTY for a number of years (communities of Desert Haven, Loma Linda, Cornudas, West Sunset Ranches) Originally established as a first responder organization, we later expanded our services to include Desert Haven EMS, offering 911 ambulance transport services to the county. Now, as we continue to evolve, we are proud to introduce Desert Haven Fire and EMS, providing comprehensive EMS and FIRE support services within our district. Despite limited funding as a volunteer organization, we are fortunate to have dedicated individuals who support our mission.

One crucial tool that our community was lacking was a functioning set of jaws of life, an essential requirement for any fire department. Fortunately, a generous volunteer acquired a hydraulic set of jaws of life, allowing us to utilize it temporarily while we sought funding to purchase a new set for the department. Moreover, the previous FIRE DEPT had accumulated county funding over the years, which, in partnership with Hudspeth COUNTY ESD 2 Commissioners, they made available to us for the purchase of this vital lifesaving tool. Today, we are thrilled to announce the delivery and implementation of our brand new battery-operated TNT Rescue Storm Surge Combination Tool, which now serves as our primary extrication tool. Additionally, we have the loaned hydraulic jaws of life tool as a secondary unit. By providing these life-saving tools, our community will be safer.

Over the past few weeks, our team has been diligently working on various projects. Notably, our community will soon have access to water hydrants in El Paso County, and we have successfully brought two fully functioning pumper trucks into service by making necessary repairs. Furthermore, we recently acquired a 2015 Chevy Diesel truck through auction, which our team is currently converting into a new brush truck. This truck will replace the old 1986 brush truck that has been in use in Desert Haven for years and is prone to frequent breakdowns. The new brush truck will be operational within the next couple of weeks. As we continue to build the fire department, we recognize that there is still much work to be done in the coming years. We require new equipment, additional training, newer vehicles, and an increase in the number of volunteers.

Before concluding, we would like to express our gratitude to a few individuals who have provided immense support. We extend our appreciation to TRP, Lt. Nick Rudl, and our entire command staff, as well as firefighter Richard Stives. Additionally, we are thankful to the entire Hudspeth County ESD 2 board of Commissioners and the previous FIRE DEPT for their collaboration in purchasing the necessary equipment. Special thanks go to Chief Marquez and the rest of our brothers and sisters at Montana Vista Fire Rescue for their guidance and support. Most importantly, we are grateful to our community, the very people we serve. Your continued support is invaluable in fulfilling our mission. Although building what we aspire to achieve will take time, especially with limited funding in our county, we are making significant progress every day, striving to make our community safer.

🔥🚒 **Desert Haven Brushfire Update and Community Safety Tips** 🔥🚒

Dear Desert Haven Community,

We hope this message finds you safe and well. We would like to update you on the recent brushfire incident that occurred this morning between Sebastian & Valentino Perez . The fire burned approximately 5 acres, but thanks to the swift response of our Volunteer firefighters and the incredible assistance from our members of our Community, the Fire was quickly brought under control before it spread into other areas. Although structures were initially threatened, there were no reports of property damage or injuries.

We would like to express our gratitude to all those who came out with shovels to assist us during this Fire. Your support makes our community stronger and safer.

⚠️ Safety Tips for Fire Prevention and Preparedness ⚠️

1️⃣ Clear Brush and Create Fire Lines: As we approach brushfire season, it is essential to create a defensible space around your property. Clearing brush and vegetation can help create firebreaks and reduce the risk of fire spreading. Please take the time to assess your property and remove fuel sources like dry or dead vegetation.

2️⃣ Develop an Evacuation Plan: In case of an emergency, it is crucial to have a well-thought-out evacuation plan in place. Identify multiple evacuation routes from your property and communicate them to your family members. Ensure that everyone knows where to meet in a safe location outside the affected area.

3️⃣ Adhere to Countywide Fire Ban: Given the exceptionally dry season we are experiencing, it is imperative to strictly adhere to the countywide fire ban. Avoid any activities that may cause sparks or ignite fires, such as outdoor burning, campfires, or the use of fireworks. Let's work together to keep our community safe.

Let's continue to support one another and work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

On February 17th, the Burnsville MN police department and fire department received a 911 call regarding a domestic assault. Tragically, a man had barricaded himself inside a house with his family members, including 7 children. Despite multiple attempts to negotiate, the man resorted to violence and opened fire on the first responders. This senseless act claimed the lives of officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both 27 years old, as well as 40-year-old firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth. The shocking news sent shockwaves throughout the state, prompting an outpouring of support from thousands of people, including civilians and first responders from various agencies across the country. A memorial service was held at the Burnsville Police Department to honor these brave men, and individuals like Thomas Hogan, a member of the Texas Rescue Patrol SAR Team, paid tribute to the fallen heroes. Hogan personally placed our TRP agency patch on each of their emergency vehicles at a special memorial site in Burnsville, Minnesota. In reflecting on this tragedy, Hogan expressed the profound impact it had on him and the rest of our team, emphasizing that the pain was not confined to Minnesota alone.
Hogan traveled to the memorial site on behalf of TRP to demonstrate solidarity and let the fallen heroes' families know that they were not alone in their grief. Hogan's presence and tribute served as a reminder that support and compassion transcend geographical boundaries. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and Agencies of these fallen heroes.

Tonight, our thoughts & prayers are with the Las Cruces Police Department and the grieving family & friends of Officer Jonah Hernandez, who valiantly gave his life to protect his community. Our deepest condolences go out to them during this tragic time. Please keep them in your prayers.

LCPD Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

The Las Cruces Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own who was killed in the line of duty after responding to a call Sunday afternoon.

Patrol officer Jonah Hernandez, from El Paso, Texas, who has been with the Las Cruces Police Department two years, was stabbed at least once after responding to a trespassing call on the 300 block of south Valley Drive. Hernandez was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11.

The investigation is in the very early stages but, at this point, police believe Hernandez was stabbed by the suspect who allegedly trespassed onto the property. So far, the investigation has also revealed that the perpetrator was shot and killed by someone who witnessed at least part of the interaction.

A witness then utilized Hernandez’s radio to call for help.

The suspect is a 29-year-old man. Police will not release his name until his next of kin have been notified.

Officer Jonah Hernandez leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 10 and 2.

Las Cruces Police will have additional information and anticipates holding a news conference early this week.
